I'm curious what the competition would be like playing live sit-n-go's vs playing them online? I've only played live like a dozen times and I don't prefer it because I've only really played 1/2nl and I find that I'm too attached to my money on the table to focus on optimal play. Which is why I prefer tournaments because essentially the money is already invested and therefore i can focus on playing cards.
I've only ever tried a sit-n-go when trying to qualify for the MWPT and I was card dead. I ended up shoving the best hand I'd recieved after a limper with 10bb which was Q9s and the limper had AA. Not much of an experience..The casino near me does have tournaments on the weekends but the buy-ins are higher than I play online and I'd like a few opinions ever before I'd consider it.. Thanks!

at the same buy ins, i would expect live to be much easier

think most of the good online sng players are mass multitabling

believe your potential win per hr would be much higher online

I think that you should try to play some live tourneys. Just remember every important hand that was played and try to find patterns to your opponents gameplay. If u manage to do that, you will have advantage of them. And dont despair if you dont have success in the first few tourneys.

The only sng's my local casino offers are 100 dollar buy ins so I'm a bit hesitant to be honest. I usually play 15 dollar buy ins online but I'm close to increasing my bankroll to the point where I can play 30 dollar buy ins. Also, I play 9 max online. The live tournament is 50 max, which does not give me confidence..

the players at the low level live SnGs will be pretty bad. Unfortunately, the blinds will go up VERY quickly because they are usually 15-20 min blinds which is almost nothing live. You'll see like 12-15 hands per blind level, and the blind levels usually double so the structure degrades quite quickly.

If you work on your push/fold game you should do well in live SnGs. Many bad players still try to "see flops" when they have like 8-12 bbs and so lots of isolation jams are profitable even if you're technically "behind".

obviously the ability to profit is quite limited....they usually take a while to get started (they aren't starting every 2 minutes like online) and you can only play 1 at a time and then if you do win, you have to tip. (which, obviously I'm not complaining about, the dealers work very hard...it just cuts into your profits).

So, while you may be a +EV player the variance will be high due to low sample size. I usually just play these after I bust out of a live MTT for something to do to kill the time until the next MTT begins and then I sell the receipts/lammers to people in line.

Thanks for the info, I have such little live experience and I want to change that. However, I'm not a cash game player and I have a very limited bankroll.. The bankroll is what's holding me back mostly, the cheapest sng's at patowatomi Milwaukee are $100 buy ins..

I'll probably try to qualify for a live MTT soon and that'll mean I'll get to play a few sng's. What do you mean "receipts/lammers?

In online poker have the statistics ( HUD ) , where you can determine the exact range hands ..

In Offline is more need to rely on cards . behavior an opponent and intuition..

That's why online games are much stronger than in the offline..

Continue where you feel you're at best.

Just remember, online is absolutely different to live.

@Slawa
Congrats on your recent live success my friend. Hopefully I we can all be as fortunate.

@Horizon
I only play on bovada so I don't use a HUD anyways. I just take notes on the weak and aggressive players when I can..

@hffjd
That makes sense but I haven't had the opportunity to give live play a real chance because of my bankroll limitations.. I'm going to keep grinding online and maybe try to qualify for some live MTT's through SNG qualifiers as a start.

most live STTs that I have played are not paid in cash, they are usually played as qualifiers to other larger events as part of a series. Because of this when you win, you will not be paid in cash, you will be paid in a tournament receipt (equivalent to a tournament coupon in online world) or you will be paid in a token, at the wsop this is an oversized chip called a "lammer" and they're worth $500 each. Lammers trade like cash during the WSOP and you can easily sell them for full face value to people in line until the last couple of days and then you might have to sell them at a discount. After registration to the main event has ended, lammers forfeit all value.

Thanks, I've only ever tried to qualify for a MTT once so I'm pretty clueless lol. I think i'll save a few bucks and try out the $100 SNG in Milwaukee. It's way outside of my bankroll but it would be a nice boost to cash in it.

I believe that the Sit & Go is the best n they can collect a lot of Frequent Player Points, you can win a lot of money and move to higher limits

I enjoy them. I'm doing pretty well so far and I'm close to moving up in stakes. I cant wait, I'll be moving up from $15 to $28. I'm hoping that will mean almost double the profits. We'll see..
