Late in big MTT's? How do you servive when it get's late in a big MTT tourney and every one is betting high every hand and/or going all in? This type of stuff seems to happen all the time but I don't seem to catch cards to call with let alone raise. Seems to be no way to even try to bluff and steal any pots when this is happening so I get blinded and anteed out of the tourney.. Can any one help me on this? I'm not too much of a tourney player any way I prefer cash games over tourney.

Generally the key is to be the one opening the pot with your shove. You might need to widen your betting range if you are getting blinded out regularly. The 2nd Volume of Harrington's Tournament books might be worth a read, if you haven't already -- deals with stack size and late-game strategies. Sit-n-gos might be worthwhile to practice different endgame scenarios. If you're final-tabling big MTTs regularly, though, you seem to be doing all right -- might just be one last gear-change you need to start winning these things!!

re: Late in big MTT's? poker Well I disagree to a point. You should play to win by trying to bring a big stack to the FT. If that fails but you get to the final table with a mediumish stack, you should play really tight, especially if moving up 1-2 spots makes a big impact on your bankroll, as it often will. That doesn't mean bypassing good restealing spots vs. other medium stacks who are just trying to survive.

The last tournament I played, the difference between 1st and 3rd was double. Other players will be playing too tight in order to try to ladder, so you can take advantage of that and shove. Passing profitable spots with a short stack is baddd

Ok thanx for the advice every one.. Now I'm just been having problems getting beat out with garbage. IE: I was just beat out with Q,Q and the pusher had 6,3 and like always caught 2 more 6's when the cards fell. I've tried to loosen up and call more with hands like that but have been getting beat and not even making money now. Normally I cash frequent even though it's not real deep in the tourney I am atleast cashing..

Don't play a loser's game just because they beat you. Shoving with 6-3 in the right spot may be ok. Calling with it almost never is (unless you are getting odds for ATC).

I have this problem too - I just played a turbo satellite where the top 6 won a ticket to a bigger tourney on PokerStars and I arrived at final table in 3rd place. I had a guy to my right who just kept opening and shoving and stealing a couple of my spots. In the end I was lucky to scrape through as one of the top six because I got lucky on the turn with a crappy hand I had to play before being all in with the blinds next hand. I know I play way too tight on final tables/deep into MTTs and it's something to work on. I guess you just have to pick the right spot and be a lot more active than I am.

Well I seem to be doing a bit better just by being a bit more aggressive. I'm still playing my tight game I play but I started pushing more chips in when I have a hand and/or when I see weakness in the other players still in.. I have noticed I've taken alot more pots that really shouldn't have been mine by doing this..

I guess there are some variations. Myself, I go with 100 x BI + 10%. So for example if I move up from $1 tournaments to $3 tournaments I will need to get my bankroll up to $330. I don't think you can be too conservative on this - so 150 x BI is not a bad idea.

re: Late in big MTT's? poker I also hear u saying "call" a lot. Just calling too much is a very weak way to play. Your probably chasing without proper odds or implied odds or even over estimating implied odds. I would suggest tightening up ur range by a ton and then playing that tighter range much more aggressive. That's a start.
