I'm taking a trip with my dad after graduation to play some tournaments. Very inexpensive tournaments. Has anyone played in some $50 tournaments for fun and witnessed most of the competition? I'm curious if I'll be against some donks or rec players.

Any levels will have some donk players, even nosebleeds in Macau... I don't know your level, but if you like poker enough to join a forum about it I am sure you know something about it :) $50 games will have some decent players, but it won't be as hard as 50NL online because people are playing live games to have fun, people playing 50NL online are playing to make money over anything else... Just have fun, and I am sure you will do fine! :)

Thanks! I'm excited. I've played 2 $90 tournament buy-ins in Columbus, Ohio. In one tournament I was so novice I went all-in with A-A first hand. People at the table were laughing at me lol. Next time I would min raise, and soft play them. Especially for 10/20 blinds.

$50 tourneys in vegas will likely have a high rake and a poor structure, but they can still be fun.

stratosphere and binions and the golden nugget have some of the better structures for low buy in tourneys. still...for live $100-150 is more like a low buy in.

The Golden Nugget offers the Grand Poker Series every year that runs concurrently to wsop, usually has the same events as WSOP but 1 day later for about 1/10 the buy in. so, for instance wsop ladies event might be $1,000 on friday, so on saturday the nugget will have a $150 ladies event with a pretty good structure. the field is pretty soft in these as it is filled with bustouts from the WSOP and people who can't afford the WSOP. There are good players too, who are just taking a little break from high buy in games, but many more fish than WSOP.

here is a link that talks about the series in general:

Dang Jacki thanks for the linkage. I'm so out of the light when it comes to rake and structure. For my style of play, longer minutes per level is best as I am a patient player. I'm so excited to play live again. You're a life saver. Are these casinos on the strip or closer downtown?

And hahaha, "duh the Orleans!"

I have no idea where our journey will take us, I imagine we're staying for 2 nights over a weekend in June and playing in 1 tourney each day? So our time needs to be spent somewhere well worth it because time is sparse. Good BJ rules, plenty of table games in case I'm knocked out quickly, and a bounty tourney would be awesome to take part in LIVE. Phew, can't wait.
