Deep Stack MTT Strategy Hello! I just started playing poker a little over a year ago online, and I've only been playing live for approximately 6 months? Give or take a few! I usually stick to playing in $35 tournaments, but one of the casinos that I go to is having a $30k tournament on Valentine's day and I've decided to go for it! I've absolutely no experience playing in a deep stack tournament, though, and I was wondering what type of strategies you all use for these? They except around 200 players. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Last edited by clover : 5th February 2010 at 11:32 PM.

How many BBs do you start with? Not always as deep as you think in smallerlocal MTTs. You can play many ways deep stacked depends how comfortable you are. You can open limp, raise and flat a lot of marginal hands like suited connectors and small pocket pairs to try and hit a flop and stack someone to double up nice and early. This works as your risking small % of stack to play these hands early. Or if youre not comfortable with this style you can just nit it up play really tight while blinds are small and insignificant, which will give you are nice tight image, which you can take advantage of when blinds do become worthwhile to you. GL man and let us know how you get on

Players will start with 15k chips, assuming everyone does the $20 add-on. The blinds will start at 25 and 50. When I first started playing poker, I was a super tight player but now that I've had more experience the range of hands I play has widened. I usually play somewhat tight at the beginning of tournaments, until I double up, then I start playing somewhat more aggressively. I really like your ideas, and I will try to implement them into my game when I play. Also, I was wondering...Do players play as aggressively and as loosely in deep stack tournaments as they do in the smaller buy-in tournaments? For instance, the last tournament I played in, a player kept raising the blinds 5-10x the blinds almost everytime he played. I find this style of play difficult to get around, especially early in the tournament. Should I except to see the same in higher buy-in tournaments?
