Chopping tourneys

This comes on the heels of the my last three SnG experiences. In all three blinds were high and I was heads up with chip stacks pretty even (1-6 bb). In all three, my opponent flat refused to chop. This boggles my mind. Unless there is some sort of prestige or title associated with the tourney, I am always down to chop the money 1,2, or sometimes 3 handed.

When do you find is the best time to chop? Or are you wholly against it?

They may think like me,if you have an advantage dont chop,if its to your advantage then chop.

Its very possible they felt like they were a better player and thus chopping would be a mistake.

I never mind a chop if the stacks are even and it becomes a shoving fest. Some people just like to gamble though.

I guess I can understand that if the stacks are deep, but with the shovefest that SnGs turn into I think you make more in the longer run chopping.

My feeling is to play it out unless ur even in money with two left, then i would chop. Don't worry about having a big stack and saying no to a chop. You played good to get there finish it out. If Blinds are high and ur even then chop.

The return in the long run is the same if you chop or if you don't, this assuming that the level of both players are even, all the chop does is make the standard deviation smaller. Personally I have more fun playing heads up since I know a few things, also if you are playing heads up and the blinds are big then you can play like a bot using the SAGE system, this system cannot be beaten, so if you are heads up it is in your favor to use SAGE as you will on average share the pot if your opponent knows the system as well, but you will come out ahead when your opponent does not know it.

As usual I aint no expert this is just what I think if the pro says Im wrong then I'm probablly wrong.

I do chop if my chip stack is more than him or if its even.
I sometimes chop successfully even if my stack is 70% of the opponent..
But the success of chopping mostly depends upon wat type of player ur opponent is and the type of impression he has on you...

i dont chop,never really did it before i play 1$-$5 sngs(mostly 6 man)
and if i make top 3 (70% of the time) i will win it,no matter the chip lead,unles i got 1-4 BB i will come back and tid..it kinda easy
but people who dont wanna chop are usually the ones who think they are much better then u..u shouldnt chop if u got a small lead too

I played in a 45 person ($35 buy in) MTT at the stratosphere two years ago. It got down to two people. We were pretty evenly stacked. He was a really solid mathematical player. He had made several statements about probabilities which were dead on. At that time I had almost no heads up experience except in $5 sit n gos and I hadn't done well when it got to heads up.

Therefore, when he asked if I wanted to chop I jumped at the opportunity.

There is no doubt in my mind I made the correct decision. I still suck at heads up. Fish out of water would adequately describe me at heads up. Plus the win payed for our entire Vegas vaction so it was extra fun.

I never ever chop SnG's mainly because the hour or two i took to play it isnt worth the chop in lower level SnG's. In MTT I chopped only once before 5 ways because I had to go to work in the next half hour. =X

I would never chop a sit n go, but a large tournament with huge pay outs then I think I would consider choping... But again if you're the better player and think u can win why chop if your chances are good to take the whole tourney down....

How big a SnG? Not really going to chop a sit-n-go, big tourneys I will. Don't see any profit in the long run chopping a SnG.

Yeah chopping a s&g isnt worth it in my opinion... mtt I would chop anything at final table

I don't like chopping. When people offer the option I just tend to ignore it. Almost every time someone has wanted to chop I have ended up knocking them out of the tournament. I think that often people bring up chopping when they feel less secure in their play.

If I was even in chips with a player of exactly the same caliber, I'd only offer to chop if I was the BB next hand
