Big Blind monster stack calls I know you have all seen this scenario. Big Blind has a huge stack. It folds around to the button or cutoff and they have like 3 BB's left and they shove. What I was wondering is why do sometimes you see the BB with his monster stack fold. Even though the loss would mean nothing to him and the win would eliminate a player why would he fold any 2 cards in that situation. Also I'm sure you have noticed that the flop usually favors the big stack for some reason. When I am in that situation I would call with anything including 7 2.

lol at flops favoring the big stacks. You think it's rigged don't you? Anyway, there are often reason to keep super short stacks around just before the bubble. Mainly so bad players with medium stacks just trying to make the money keep folding and getting shorter.

there is a really good old thread about it but im struggling to find it. The crux of it is that on certain tables with lots of weak tight midstacks, it can be more profitable for the big stack to deliberately keep the micro stack (and the bubble) alive so he can steal and continue to build his stack.

As has been said, it manipulates everyone else to that he can steal more lucratively. I've gone from being just barely in first to securing the win a couple times doing this. Second, It can do a little more than you think. say big stack has 15k, little has 1k. 1k wins, 14 and 2k. so from 15:1 to 7:1 say he wins again. 12k to 4k; 3:1. I've seen players do this and the short stack gets lucky a few times and all of a sudden, big stack is out. Very unlikely, but still plausible.
