So i'm addicted to these americascardroom.com freerolls. They usually have about 500 players and it only pays 10 spots (10th 55c, 1st 2.50)... Thing is you get points for in the money finishes and can win tourney bucks, which is what im going for. My question is about strategy. For building a freeroll bankroll and an MTT T$ bankroll, what is the best option early on in these (first hour). Is it best to gamble a little and try to double up twice early, or to just play super tight and wait for spots to get it in? The freerolls start about every half hour. Just curious what your thoughts are:beer:

I started out playing these and went from zero to $100 on there in a couple of months. My strategy is to just play my normal tight early game and value or overbet my good hands. It's not too hard to get paid off with top pair or over pair hands. I'm not a big fan of just gambling it up. For example it's the first few levels and you hold 88 in the big blind. UTG shoves all in and gets called in middle position, I'm just mucking that.

Keep in mind that only 1.5 - 2% of the players cash in these so variance is huge. I'd move to the 55 cent $25 on demands as soon as you can as they still have terrible players but you will cash more frequently.

Good luck!

I play in these as a warm up 1st game or if I don't want to invest money cause its late and I might not stay up for a real tourney.but these things last forever and you don't win much so I don't take them to seriously. I usually jump in late 3rd round I like less time, less donks. then I look for a quick double up or I donk out and move on.might not be the best advise but this is the way I usually play these as a space filler or whatever.but atleast it is there which we don't have a lot to chose from

Wow...I had never heard of these on ACR. I could definitely use the points in addition to the money going towards my bankroll.

I have been playing on this site for a few weeks now and love the freerolls. I am going to be doing a BR building thread soon. See you on the tables and good luck to everyone.

There was a thread about these yet on BC poker not long ago if I recall correctly.
Definitely viability here, as I mentioned in that thread, intertops poker has some really smaller field great MTT freerolls if you are at that stage as well.
$250 freerolls with 600-750 ppl approximately obv and capped at 500 daily 3x freerolls with top 15 receiving seats to a real money MTT.

I have played in many of these recently. I typically will play loose the first couple of tournaments to stack up and i do not start playing tight until around 60 players give or take. I like to get all the donks out of the way first then start playing aggressive , but tight to keep me stacked until i hit the money

This is one of the hardest sites to play free poker. Even though they have a top 10 10$ freeroll OnDemand (usually every 90 mins inbetween 12noon-2am), and 4 or 5 daily sats that give 3 or 5 seats to a tourney (best finish was 6th when 5th paid doh!) this site is still so difficult to cash. I will be focusing on the 10$ FRs for now, and how to set yourself upp to cash.

I like to play the percentages. I like math. Things add up, the % of online freerolls in general do not add up. Play enough and you will see, this site is no different.

It may be the poster child of bad beats that Ive seen (BOL in contention), so naturally I take the other side of the %. Only at opportune moments, and against some opponents that you know will shove with any 2. I cant stand over your shoulder and tell you when to push, but if you take notes of how each site flows, and you will see the "bingo players" or "bots" or whatever name player that wins and is a tough out. Create an image of a tight player that shoves with good cards (1st90 mins) play very tight and then with 4/5 tables left you loosen up but still shove against the right people (limpers, blinds that are tight players or that respect u) and you dont care that you may be dominated or that your only outs are str8s and flushes (6h7h shove vs blinds) because this site loves to reward the bad aggressive player.....

Okay, so the breakdown, if you can stay in the tournaments, you can be in 3 at once in the peaks (i took 7, 11, and 120th and was playing all 3 atst) so that is a fun goal to try and stay long enough to play in 3 or 4 at once. Now the stages of the game:

1st stage (until Late reg is over +10 more mins usually 1st 45 mins)
-in this stage I go all in with good cards no matter whats in the pot, because people will call and even if they dont, they will call the next time because it looks like you dont care. When I double up (or lose-and minimal time wasted) I usually just fold everything except pps (under jj i limp in and(hopefully) set up then place bait) and A10-Ak (although A~rag suited is often a good flop hand) Really just loking for the best hand and then going all in or trapping depending on situation. Im happy to get out of the 1st 45 mins with 2 ss or 3k, this means Im registered for the next game and I am avg stack until 250 players (coincidentally the avg # of players when LR is over)

2nd stage (from 250 players until 100 players usually 25 mins) now 55mins play 1 5 min break
-this is the always important mid game. I like to just consider Starting Stacks (ss) as rungs on a ladder and each rung is 1 ss. So to move up I need a stack, step by step I need to move up. There should still be fish/bad players in the game, and I mark them red (for radical, rash, red for stop), that way I can always know them and they love to call preflop shoves, or even just easy to trap cuz loose chips sink ships. Focus on NOT playing pots against other players like you, because this gives respect over loing term, and gains respect as well (for later when your in the bubble with them). I like to get to the top 100 with 4-6 ss or 6k-9k. If I get to 10/12k I usually sit out until top 100 because its guaranteed stage 3 in top 25%.

3rd stage - (100 players until 50-60left) 15 min to 35 ins
- In this stage i like to see alot of flops as well, but it really depends on your stack, if youre still hovering 3k-5 then it may be better to allin or fold, and building on the tight aggressive play from stage 2. If you can get to 25 ss or 35k -40k you can sit out until top 20-25 players and still be fine. 40 k is a goal of mine VERY game I play on this site. Reach it and you can cash 50-75 % of the time.

4th Stage - (50-20players) This is the Super bubble (make it to here and you are 20% to make themoney)
- This is where I open up to a few jabs and punches with not so good hands. I will play alot of people/situations than I will my whole cards. There are quite a few "plays" at pots you can do, I wont go into them here, but they only work once, and they work well during this stage, yo can build your sack without showing your cards, and improving on our image. Goal is 35k then chill(chill is 1/20 pots is ok)

5th Stage - (20-10 players) The Bubble (50% of people here make $$)
- If you get here with 35 k you are better than 50% to make the money, cuz you can just play good poker and make tough folds preflop (a10, kq, kj, 2s-5s) Remember this is the time to call low stack all ins and use your stack to protect your AA and JJ etc......
-If you have less than 20k you are probably in trouble/ need to DU to make the money. Get it whenever you can, but be patient. If you tilt, you lose. If you lose without tilting you win. lol but its true. You cant do anything when you play good cards and results are not in your favor.

6th stage - FT -
Good Luck ! you can make +.40 for 5th place, thats what I shoot for when Im at FT.

Best of Luck Hope this helps ~ GotabigSet

I'm playing in freerolls loose-aggressive than in tournaments with not the contribution, as in the freeroll not risks and they will play with a wide range of hands

everyone has their own style of play and more in the free tournaments sometimes have to change the game plan for the types of players entering their luck at the tables.

Several times I have won this tournament, but I think it is not worth the effort and time. participants are too many, and the profit for 1 st place too small.
