Add ons and Rebuys What are peoples opinions on rebuys and addons. I have never purposely done either in an online tourney. (accidently in bodog freerolls a couple times) In live tourneys i am all about it. At the casino i play most my poker at all the rebuys and add ons go to the prize pool which greatly creates bigger cashes. Ex. I played in a $27+7 at the local casino probably about 33 people and won $520 payed top 5 and 5th still got $100 of so. So clearly rebuys and addons helped. Doing it online just does't seam to pay in most tourneys i come across. Anyone out there rebuy and addon on a consistant basis?

I occasionally play rebuy tourneys. They can get a bit wild during the rebuy period, as I am sure you know from casino rebuys. It works the same online-- the rebuys and add-ons greatly increase the prize pool, and the better players will take most of it. Those who make a ton of rebuys tend to get busted once their safety is gone -- but their money stays. Gotta love it. I set a strict limit on how many rebuys I will make -- usually 3 or 4 -- and love it when I make none. I play my normal game, but a bit tighter during rebuy period. I will almost always take the add-on, unless I am, by some huge fluke, one of the big stacks and don't need it to be competitive.

If your gonna play a rebuy tournament you got to make us of rebuys and the add on otherwise it will be very hard to get far in these tourneys. If you aren't planning of making use of it your better off playing a normal mtt imo. The advantage you have when you rebuy and add-on is that your stack will be bigger. And you can play with a deepstack instead of a shortstack.

A good rule of thumb with re-buys and addons, is only rebuy/addon up to the lowest payout. If you go over, your pushing yourself to finish ITM, and being stressed about your play will cause you to loose more often that you'll win. I love playing in the .10 rebuy tournie on FTP. I have never rebuyed / addon in these tournaments and have had 2 good ITM finishes (19th and 24th). Yes I've played in them quite a bit, almost daily, and only having 2 cashes doesn't give me win ratio. Yet the fact that I can place so high ITM, without having to rebuy or addon gives me a huge ROI increase. Making a good $7 off of that .10 gives me many more 1 shots at these tournaments. If I rebuy into this tournament, I could have played in it 5 more times 1 shot at the same price. Granted, regular rebuy / casino tournaments are a different story. If the buy-in / rebuy / addon are all the same amount (ie the dally dollar rebuy), I'm all for doing my stratedgy at the beginning. If you don't rebuy in these tournaments, you might as well be playing a regular freeze out.

re: Add ons and Rebuys poker My Favourite Rebuy addon is the daily dollar. I dont like to rebuy + addon for more than 5 dollars because just making the money only pays 7 and I would like to at least profit. Also 5 dollars for a shot at over 2K is the best bargain IMO. I dont know of any other tourney where you could pay as little as 2 dollars (I always add on at the beginning so that if I double up its a big one) and make sometimes over 3K (sundays). Full Tilt has a couple of great ideas on how to play the rebuys-but I like to play very aggressive with any kind of edge and I'm sure it will pay off soon enough. For instance I play my pocket pairs hard against one player because I have the best of it. In fact I try and induce an AQ/AK/AJ to get allin preflop so that I can double up-If I get kncoked out I know that I can rebuy. I think its a cool tourney because you can rebuy when you get drawn out after having the best of it (as most good players on this forum actually have the best of it). Lata, Michael

I rebuy at start and add on at break, so buyin is 3X the initial cost. The Stars 1A1R tourneys r good for this. Will not rebuy for minimum chips if I get busted. Generally prefer shootouts because play is more cautious, and when I knock someone out I want them to stay out.

I love rebuy tournies. I play like a madman at the beginning (well, actually, all the time ), so if I bust out, I'll rebuy and do it again. Definately fits my style. Depending on the $ involved, this can be a no-brainer. Harrahs Rincon had (has?) a tourney that's $25, but the rebuys are only $5, so why *wouldn't* you play that way? Oddly, 80% of the people are still rocks. So, I'll shove with something marginal like K/Q. I either steal the blinds, win a showdown, or lose and try again for $5. Now, if the RB was $25, I'd tone it down. (Well, *I* wouldn't...but most sane people would)

It definately makes a difference in the amount of rebuy for the tourney thats for sure. 27+8 tourney i was in had $10 rebuys and the same for the add on. I was able to win first hand i played and so never had chance/ need to rebuy. I try to limit myself to 2 rebuys and then the add on. This worked well though only had to pay 45 for my 524 win.
