I just started playing SnG's recently as well. I started with a $.90 sat into some other sat, got lucky on my second one and won the entry of $17. From there I went to heads up for a while, broke even at those after a week. Then on to the SupTurbo sats....you can sure make some cash fast cash in those let me tell ya. I think the lowest they go is like $3.90 so you might want to build you BR up a bit before you try those. But the very lowest-stakes sats are probably your place to start.

re: Where to start poker $20 is a bit light to play S&G's on Full Tilt. The micros are $1 +$.25. That's rake rape. The $2 +$.25 are a bit steep rake-wise, but acceptable. So I'd wait until you were at least rolled for those games. There at $.25 +$.05 and $.75 +$.15 satellites/super-satellites, but 20% rake is steep. They're basically games to exploit people who have so little money that they don't have any choice. You mention that the freerolls are lotteries. That's not exactly true. A smart/disciplined player has a huge advantage in those things. I mean, we joke about them being lotteries because people tend to overplay hands there (IE, lots of big live-or-die pots), and you can only call so many all-ins with the best hand without getting unlucky. Those pesky 2-to-1 all-in's tend to lose about 1 out of three times, which is fatal.

I sometimes use the .50 SNG at Ultimate bet. Also get into the private Freerolls , like Cardscaht. Good luck in your endevors.
