Where should I be playing online? I'm new to poker and I've just starting playing at cheap tournaments on Full Tilt. I realize there are many sites to play at. For those who have actually played at multiple places, my question to you is: What in your opinion is the best place for a newcomer? Also, some advantages and disadvantages to a specific website? Anything helps. Thanks.

i started playing at pokerstars, they had the olympics thing so it was easy to get free money. If you want to deposit though it is also the best, tons of tourneys.

Welcome to Cardschat! IMO Carbon Poker is one of the softest around for cash games. Negatives are they don't have a lot of traffic and you can wait a while for a seat (5-10 minutes at times to get at a full table). I think they have 2nl which is really fishy (and donky). Stars is good, just not sure what their lowest limits are. Best of luck with your pokering.

Full Tilt is a good site, but for 'cheap' tourneys, the rake is too high at 25%. Their 10c tourney is a 50c rebuy and it gets nuts. There are a few tourneys that are $1 (no house add-on), like the Ferguson. I prefer Pokerstars. Lots more options and their low buy-in tourneys are 10% for the house. They also have the 10c, 25c and 50c tourneys with NO house add-on. The 10c and 25c ones have money added and they run several times a day. GL wherever you play.

Carbon has to be the best for new players...30 days of freerolls just for newbies. The game never fills and its a great way to start your bankroll. They have a lot of fun smaller cash games too and of coarse the private games. Next i would have to say is Doyles. they have great loyalty games and bounty games too. sng for 9c and up ALL day long pokerworld is different than anything out there but it is fun where ever you decide to play you will have fun so try em all... then you decide your favorites. Good luck, Bearcat

PokerStars definately has the most games and the most people. It depends on what buy ins your playing at and what stategies you are using. I find the $5 STTs on PokerRoom skins soft and the ones on the IPoker network full of calling stations (so stay away from them.) Although I play on a lot of sites Stars is still my favourite because you rarely have to wait to get into a game.

Yea try pokerstars for sure. Another good one imo is bodog. Poker stars has a insane amount of freerolls, Bodog has like 3 a day with 500$ pot. Either way free tourneys for a chance at money is always nice.

If your looking to grind the freeroll circuit to start off, I would also suggest carbon, they also have a steps SnG in which you use $250 play money to purchase a ticket for step 1 whereas only first place moves onto step 2 and gets a ticket for the 3rd step, which the winner of the 3rd step wins $1 real money, but those steps are just crazy. As for real money, pokerstars is your best bet as it has been mentioned, has frequent tourney's running and you can always find a game to play with only a 10% rake. But if you do decide to play at fulltilt, may I suggest googling "rakeback sites", where you get back a percentage of the rake you pay, but go to the rakeback site before you download any poker site and use the rakeback site's links to the poker rooms. Also look here for some reviews of some of the sites. Poker Sites - Play at the Best Online Poker Sites!

You should check out Ultimate Bet also. They have a freeroll tournament every hour at 15 minutes after. There are a lot of pure donkeys in them but you can win enough money to get going in either their sitngos or regular tournys.

re: Where should I be playing online? poker I'm also a fulltilt user. i've never tried any other sites, but full tilt seems to have people playing 24/7. i also recommend practicing on play chips. just try to build a little play chip bank roll, it adds to the learning process without real money loss!
