When do you quit? I know that there are numerous threads in here on how to deal with tilt and how to control it, etc. I want to know how you guys know to stop playing when you are winning. I have a hard time taking breaks right now because the game is so novel and interesting to me. What are some of the guidelines for saying "I made a profit, I've had enough" that you guys follow?

Dont quit if you are on a winning streak. You are lucky enough and it is still there. But if you are loosing like 3 in a row, better to stop for a while and rest for at least an hour or two. Then go back to play again and have more luck.

re: When do you quit? poker This is I think a individual question based upon the player's personality. If you feel good about your play but are losing at the moment, and it doesn't bother you at all then keep playing. (Now of course, it may not hurt to take a break for a moment, review your play to see if you were really playing well) If you are playing well but having a string of bad beats that is making you feel annoyed/ restless/frustrated then a break is what you need. I try to really look how I'm feeling before I sit down and play. If I am at all feeling anxious or upset about something outside of poker I tend to just skip playing that day.

It depends..... The ubiquitous poker answer. Usually I set a time limit. Say after 8 hours of play I evaluate my play, my hourly rate, my table, my villains and how I'm feeling. I am not a marathoner. Unless Im still feeling real good I usually quit after 8-10 hours of live play and online I usually quit after 6. The other night I was at the Commerce playing the 200nl. They only allow a 40 dollar initial buy-in. I had been playing for 7 hours and had 600 in front of me. Me and one other guy were killing the table. At midnight the other big stack left and within an hour the table was 4 handed. I was still feeling good so I kept playing and continued to grow my stack. At 2am (almost 9 hours of play) three guys sat down looking fresh as ever and started talking lots of smack. They were playing hyper aggressive. I had to tighten and get real paitent. I played 2 pots in 40 minutes, won one, lost one and left. Maybe I shouldv'e stayed, i felt I was a better player but was too damn tired. Hard and fast rules like a profit/loss limit work great theoretically but I cant see myself leaving after making my profit mark and some juicy player sits down. IT DEPENDS. I have found that it is more beneficial to evaluate the game I am in (+ or - EV) and how I feel my play is going opposed to a static number limitation of hours played or money won/loss.

What limit's/games do you usually play? I tend to want to win more than I can on the lower limits, when really a couple dollars an hour is the best on will get, but I get impatient. If it's higher limits then try going down a level to protect your bankroll. Dealing and controlling tilt for me is a tough aspect of poker (because of my impatients) I usually go smoke a cig, walk around, and try not to think about that bad beat that just cost me half my br. Also events outside of your poker game can affect you. If your pissed or sad about something dont try to make yourself feel better by trying to win money-thats not a good combo. Just try to be patient, stay calm, and keep grinding!
