when do you draw the line?

During those stretches where those loose fishes who'll call you with any ace and any suited cards keep nailing you, when do you give up and wait for tomorrow? Is it when you tilt?

It's kind of hard. You keep thinking you'll win it back if the fish keeps calling you with inferior stuff, but for me it usually doesn't happen. But usually I end up losing more. Guys call two bets with ace high and hit their ace on the river. Gutshots calling pot size bets down and hitting. Once the floodgates open for me, I can't seem to close it unless I just stop for that day.

After some frustration, I ended up tilting away two buy ins by refusing to give'em credit for a higher PP than I had.

I can understand ur frustration here but you have to fold those good hands and wait for a great hand in the right position and get it in. This will calm the jumping fish down a bit. When they play so loose you play tight and wait til they bite the hook! GL and keep ya head-up!

Tilted away another buy in LOL. KQ suited raise big behind two limpers. He calls. Flop comes a Q with two low cards all diamonds. I bet pot, first time flats, the next guy shoves. I should fold here with 2/3 my stack still with me. I ended up calling cuz I was just sick of getting raised everyhand. If I wasn't tilting I would probably have folded normally. I put him on Ad with a pair of the low cards.

He had 4d5d.

Same guy takes me out 10 mins later with KK. I had AA. All in preflop and he flops a K. I can't fold it can I? Took 2 buyins from me within 15 mins.

Some days I just can't win at all. Yet during these days I get pissed and keep playing until I finally come to my senses and quit. Like now.

Part of the deal is to 'not let it negatively affect you' (emotionally)... & when (or if) it does.. 'quit'.. or.. try your best to work through it (I found that after awhile I could work through it faster (didn't stay pissed).. & later found that it wasn't happening nearly as often.

Try posting on Jared Tendler's thread on CC. There's ALOT of great stuff on that thread (I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention than it has).

Just keep playing him and over time you will take his money. He will get lucky a few times but in the longrun you will overcome.

I usually love opponent in this scenario and will root for them against other opponents silently because I will wait for a premium hand to bust them, but I have seen the occasion when that person just seems to be in god mode and then ends up busting my kings or aces when I do get them.
In this scenario my limit is 2 buy ins and if I lose those to them I quit and just keep the note for another day.

Recognize this is not about the fish and not about getting sucked out on - this is about you and your reaction to the situation. You don't give any details on that though so difficult to say anything that will help. My guess is you are chasing the fish by widening your range and making the situation worse by playing the same game they are and setting yourself up. You have to play the opposite strategy to nail them.

Tighten up your starting range and let him bluff himself into the toilet. Just don't be in a rush to get ALL his chips.

Good players lose the minimum on a bad day and win the maximum on a good day.

Great person to play against but the best thing you can do when they're on a heater and you're obv getting tilted to to leave and don't play for a day or two.

Or you can just go take a short break (5-10 minute walk) whenever you feel you might be tilted.

In the grand scheme of things, poker is probably not too fun when you're tilted so just taking a break is probably best. If you're playing purely for the profits, use the following function:
If Your edge - the amount of edge you lose per unit of tilt * the level of tilt you are on * 0.75 <= Your edge * 0.5 Then
Go on a 15 minute walk and eat some ice cream
Else if Your edge - the amount of edge you have lost < 0
Stop playing until something good happens
Else
Smash your computer because it will make you feel better
End if

NL Poker is a multi street game.

Each street is more costly than the last.

To be a good player you have to make good decisions on all streets and not just the first 2 or 3.

Yes in the beginning it was bad luck, and then after about an hour of frustration at the table I just finally tilted away two buyins with medium PPs that ran into QQ and KK. I played those horribly and normally wouldn't have lost the whole stack if I wasn't on tilt.

I was actually just down about $2 at that point (4NL) cuz I had won some money before the run began. After I took a break, those last two implosions cost my another two buyins. The AA vs. KK loss wasn't really a tilt job but just a sort of an exclamation point end to the day.

My threshold for tilt has gotten much higher now compared to when I started online poker two yrs ago, but once it's crossed, I still can't stop it until it runs too long. I could be winning so much more if I just stop having these kinds of mental blocks when I just can't quit before it really gets bad.

Get up from the table and go for a walk. Talk yourself down from the ledge.

I used to get in trouble mentally because I was unable to get away from the table and look at things from a distance, from an objective point. Now I am pretty damn quick to take a little walk (usually disguised as stretching my legs) and as I do it more the "recovery" time is much faster.

For some reason I felt before that if I left the table I would miss something - like the dealer would give me pocket trips. Now I look at more as I cannot afford the little break. I do try to time it so it won't miss more than a hand but if I do - screw it - there are always cards coming.

Yep - and that's where your focus needs to be. And understand that making 100% correct decisions does not translate to raking in 100% of the pots.

and every hand you get it in and are the fav just to lose to runner runner
i lost half my bankroll in under 24hrs- STUPID
and i keep going to bigger tbls and tournies and losing more-STUPIDER

It won't matter how much you try to improve your game if you don't figure out how to improve/recover from tilt. You should spend a lot of time working on that.

I have pretty much won back the coins I lost during the implosion. I really need to just force myself to leave the table during the bad days--pull the plug on the PC if need be. Has anyone actually done that? =)

If I'm not somewhat remotely enjoying myself on the tables (online), I leave.
I don't play when I have alot on my mind.
I don't play if I've had a conflict with family member.
I don't play if I'm too tired.
I don't play if I think I should be doing something else.
I don't play if I get pissed off while I'm playing.

If I'm in a tournament I do my best to jump start myself to where I'm at now (ie., Okay.. so I had a good stack of 80bb's... I got donked & lost a monster & now have 25bb's... new plan > play this stack size the best way I know how for each & every situation. It's very rare if ever that I punt my stacks after losing a big pot deep in a tournament. Wasn't always the case though. On cash tables, I'll attempt to re-group if the table is real good. If I can't get it together real fast I just shut it down & play later.).

If you are on a table with fishes keep playing the money will eventually come to you. My record online took a nose drive when I forgot that simple rule. My sessions we too short and if I took a bad beat or two I usually left the table. Bad mistake. I used to play a lot of live poker (with pros and semi-pros where (converting to 2011 dollars) there was many thousands in each pot. These session lasted 8- 16 hours. Although I expected the normal swings, I usually came out ahead and more than once by getting a rush in the late stages of the game. Online it is just too easy to click off. Now if I go back to playing ring games on line, I plan to play at least 2-4 hours at each table.
