What should I have done here?

Live tournament. Blinds at 200/400
UTG flat calls the blind. Hes got about 25k
Everyone folds to me in the cutoff. I look down at Ac Qh. I raise to 1200. I have 12400 total. Action folds to UTG and he calls. pot is at 3000
So far all I know is that he has been real aggressive and he hasnt had to showdown in awhile. We're in the midstage of the tourney.
Flop comes Ah 9h Ad and the villian immediately bets 1000. I cant see him having 99 or a bigger A. I raise to 3000. And he calls, pot is at 9000 and I am down to 8200.
Turn comes 6h and he checks. I start thinking about what suited cards he'd play and I can only think he might have 78h and and I decide to check because Id usually bet here and I've been trying to slow own and think more as I make my plays.
River comes 7c and he fires out 3500. I dont know what to think, Im just plain confused. I tanked for awhile and couldnt figure how to fold or raise and ended up calling.
He shows 24 of hearts for the flush.
What could I have done there? The only thing I could see was betting more on the flop or raising the river to rep a bigger flush but thatd be a desperate move for me. Any thoughts? This crushed my stacks and I was felted in the next orbit.

Just looks like a bad beat to me, it looks like to me you played it fine and just got unlucky... since hes so aggressive checking turn and calling river is fine imo, he'll have random flushes sometimes but i don't see how you can fold here unless you have some sort of read.

Thanks, its been on my mind for a few days now and I ususally dont obsess over hands like this.

Nothing really, prayed harder for the flush not to hit. You played it well, I suggest get into some more pots with this guy if he's gonna call a raise uth with 24 suited.

Raise to 2K (5BB) preflop and shove over the top of his flop raise. Either he has a hand he likes AX or a FD and will call or he stabbed with a bluff and will not put any more money in the pot. So shoving will be called as often as a standard raise.

As played, when he calls and checks he has the flush. An aggressive player would barrrell it with a low ace or air.

I dont like the call on the river. If you werent going to bet that turn because of the flush, why call off such a big raise on the river?

3 of the aces are accounted for, so its less likely he has an ace and more likely he has a FD.

The call here is the difference between a 20BB stack and a 12 BB stack.

Personally I would have got the money in in the flop, and gone bust but overall its higher EV than raising and then calling a large bet once the scare card has come in.

It's really a bad beat if he was real agressive he was calling any bet on the flop even an all in better luck next time.

If you want to play by the book, then your re-raise after the flop was too small. you raised him $2K with the pot being $7K after your raise. He's getting 3.5 to 1 to call. Which is more than enough to chase a flush. Then he tells you he's chasing a draw by just calling and you give him a free card to hit his draw. Then you pay him off when the flush comes on the river.

My recommendations for the next time, if you are going to re-raise, then raise by at least the amount that is in the pot so he's not getting odds justifying a call. Second don't give a free card on the turn unless your hand improves to the nuts. And finally, if you do give a free card on the turn don't call when the draw comes on the river.

When stacks are short I much prefer a shove because after raising pot, I dont want to be left with a small amount of money (less than 3/4 pot) that I wont know what to do with if the scare card comes.. Im getting a great price to call off bluffs, at the same time I am reducing the effectiveness of a pot sized raise by turning to a calling station with the left over money once the scare card hits.

If stacks were deeper then yes pot sized is the way to go because the above will not happen.

very big raise or shove after the flop. this will stop him in his tracks, hopeing for flush or draw, not many will take the risk to even call, unless they have the nine or king.....................joker131

Orifice, good idea not posting all the action. No shove on the turn cause I was scared of a flush, and donked off some chips on the river regardless.

My game has improved since I've been here on Cardschat.

I am not sure I would have done much different. The guy played a bad hand and got lucky. It happens. I hope you meet him again and he keeps playing like this because he will boost your chip stack with plays like that.
