You want to stay away from playing AQ AJ A10 KQo KJ QJ K10 Q10 J10

especially if you know the field is loose, you want to stick to solid premium starting hands. Because its too EASY to be dominated with something like K J.

I just try to stick to this religiously in MTTs:
Early Position: AA KK AKs
Middle Position: AA KK AKs AKo QQ JJ TT QJs J10s
Late Position: AA KK AKs AKo AQs AQo QQ JJ TT Pocket pairs 5 - 9

and I will raise in the SB or BB if in an unraised pot with 3 or less players. with anything K10 and higher. This is the only scenario I'd really play KJ in.

Of course I'm going to fold easily dominated hands in middle or late position to an All in unless I can identify the player as being recklessly stupid.
Hey Pilgrim,

saw this post in Brags and Beats.

wanted to let you know I made note of your starting hands.
I'm going to give it a try in free rolls (these are usually donk-fests).

Question, I usually go on long periods of nothing hands where my stack
is getting so low I get desperate and play foolishly at times.
How do you survive the long dry spells waiting for these premium hands?
How do you even place in any tournament waiting?

I have seen countless hands that I have folded be winners.
I wish there was a return folded cards button option on on line sites,
I realize you cannot go past tense with the flop and your hole cards,
but man, there must be a wider range of starting hands.

For example I have folded Q9 of suit and suited only to miss out on
straights or 3 of a kind, even full houses and once a straight flush.

So my main question is what is the range for starting hands
in non-turbo MTT and 18+ SnG to prefent me from going on tilt
waiting for a premium hand.

This is a good range for the early stages of an MTT but i can't see you winning many, if any at all, if you play like this through the whole thing.

I usually play only these strong hands in the early stages, including sc's in late position if i can see a cheap flop, while the blinds are still really small compared to stack sizes, this gives you huge implied odds if you hit your hand.

In the early stages just try and concentrate on how the rest of your tables playing, what kind of players are you sat with, are they limping UTG with cards like QTo or KT, this tells me they dont pay much attention to position, do they raise a lot or are they happy to limp in and play passively, how do the 2 people to your left defend their blinds, if at all, how much are the people on your right raising to steal when its been folded around to them, all these things will help you keep occupied while waiting for good hands or the right spot to play speculative hands like sc's suited 1 gappers etc.

As soon as the blinds become worth stealing, say 100-200 blinds, then i start opening my range a touch in late postion when it's been folded around to me or there are 1 or 2 limpers who have shown in the past that they will limp-fold to a raise and they're not trying to trap a late pos raiser, i'll always be raising if i'm first in the pot though, never just open your range and start limping in late pos b/c if the players to your left notice this they will start raising you with trash and stealing your limped chips.

Always pay attention to your M in the middle-end stages of an MTT as well, theres been many times where i've realised too late that my stack size is starting to dwindle and that a push from me would have a good chance of being called by almost everyone, this makes you tighten up and if you go card dead for a while you'll end up shoving your min-raise allin and forcing the blinds to call, if not everyone else at the table lol.
Keep checking your stack size and make sure that an all in from you would threaten someone's stack, as soon as you think that your stack is getting small then you need to REALLY open your range and start shoving when the actions folded around to you with almost any cards, K9,JT,79s,78s etc are all good enough to be shoving with to steal blinds from people who are unwilling to call such a bet without premiums themselves.

Went on for a bit too long there but i hope i put across how i open my ranges as an MTT progresses b/c i dont think for a second that whoever you quoted from plays this range all the way through a tourny, if he does i want him at my table lol.
