wanted some opinions on whether this is considered good form

i imagine this was a repeat, but i had not seen this episode of high stakes poker myself. anyway, jerry buss was playin and apparently had been folding quite a bit, and when he does enter the pot, i think it was sammy farha that made some comment like this guy been folding and folding, watch out! later in the show eli elezra did basically the same thing to jen harmon later on. gabe kaplan, the cohost of the show, rebuked both sammy and eli on air for this saying it wasnt appropriate for them to alert the rest of the table to how tight someone is playing. i didnt think that much of it myself. i mean i have been in games, and tourneys where someone says this about me, or another player, but personally it didnt really bother me. just curious what others may think.

I got a big problem with it. It's like announcing a read. "He's tight." "She's tight." WTF? Where is the limit on how much info is announced to the table before it becomes unacceptable? "He's tight, but he did raise once. But then he folded when I 3-bet him." "She's tight and when she limped a pot, she shoved after I raised her." Do you see where it could lead?

yeah, i didnt think of it that way really. but i can see how it could be a problem if it was allowed to go on every hand. if it got to be a repeated thing, i believe i would speak up if i was at the table.

Perhaps Sammy and Eli being action players made several coments during the session that didn't make it on the air, and that is why Kaplan made his statement. I've seen Daniel making the same type of statement as well, but it was after the amatuer was mouthing off a bit about Daniels agreesive play. Gabe really does a nice job on that show BTW.

I have seen that happen on a few occasions on the show and really think that it is totally inappropriate and unprofessional IMO.

Although I don't really think it was appropriate I would like to play devil's advocate here.

Couldn't you do the same type of thing and be full of crap? Suppose some players haven't really been paying attention and you announce this type of thing. What if someone has been really loose, but you proclaim they are tight, and suddenly the oblivious drunk guy starts gunning for them?

Would this be considered OK? Isn't misinformation part of the game? After all, what is a bluff but a well disguised lie?

I am not condoning nor discouraging these tactics. I'm just curious what peoples thoughts are.

If I get a read on someone I'm keeping it to myself. Why share what i know with the whole table. Plus I dont think it's fair to the player your anouncing.

It sort of ranks the same as asking a player how many chips they have left and someone else answers the question for them. You didn't want to know the count, you wanted the person to talk so you could read them.

I think it goes to potentially messing with what you want to accomplish during the hand. I doubt the person who was the subject of the comments (by Farha, Elezra, etc.) appreciated the comment. They probably perceived the comments as hurting them in the hand they were playing.

I wouldn't appreciate the comment, even if it helped me, because I know that if they keep doing it then next time it won't.

The problem is that you help bad players recognize danger when otherwise they may have paid you off. This is bad because they are in a sense aiding the bad players. Players should not give information to other players in the middle of a play. Those guys on high stakes poker know each other really well and are the best at their craft. They prob just assume everyone else sees the same thing and are making a joke.
