I found that playing regular SnG are a better way to find your bearings. Once you are more comfortable playing them, try a turbo for faster action. I find it is best to be patient early, even if the blinds are eating your stack. An opportunity will always come.

SitNGo normal. You can make SEVERAL mistakes and still be able to bounce out of it. DOesnt matter if your stack is low you can still see enough hands to bring it back up. Use the normal sitngos to work on your playing styles to develop, build your skills, etc...

I suggest the turbo's, for this reason; As a beginner you very likely have not learned the patience lesson. Turbos allow you to fold a bit more under this particular circumstance, and still be engaged in the game. For a beginner a normal slower game will bore you to tears. Always keep in mind that you are very likely to be playing TOO MANY HANDS. Learn to slow down your expectations, then move to the normal games. This is also the wrong place for this thread. It should be in Learning Poker, and I am requesting it get moved.

I personally prefer normal SnGs because I play better at slower rates. I don't like it when the blinds go up too fast. In turbo games you will see a lot of action and aggressive play. Sometimes even a few fish going all in a lot. So it really depends on you. What do you like best? But if you want my suggestion I would have to go with normal games.

I would have to say for a beginner that the normal blind levels would be best. I understand why DJ is talking about with beginners not have a ton of patience, which is true, but you need to learn that as well to become a decent poker player. For a beginner, I think that turbos are just too aggressive to get a decent grasp of how to play well... if they play too many hands, with the increasing blinds, they will be out fast as hell....if they only wait for premium, they will be blinded out by the time they have anything, and even then no one will bite.

I suggest normal SnGs, because i played turbos before and they where too difficult, i got mad not being able to play the hands i usually like to play and as a beginner you want to look at as many flops as possible and that's not very possible with turbos and i can't imagine what super-turbos are like. but it depends on how you play because turbos is more of a gamblers game having to move allin alot.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, depending on your strengths and weaknesses. I find that the normal sit n gos, you can be more patient, see what kind of style your opponents are playing and not feel rushed because the slower blind structure. The advantages of a Turbo game, is that I think it makes the game simpler. With the rapid blind increases, towards the bubble there's less thinking, and practically almost shove or fold. While it's quicker format, the decisions are a little easier.

Either is fine depending on a mix of factors such as your playing style, preference, temperament, tolerance for variance. You can certainly play both types, although I wouldn't recommend doing so simultaneously. Winning poker is about relative ability, not absolute. If you're better than your opponents (which can mean not as bad), you should be a winner over time provided you don't piss your winnings away. So if you're above average compared to your opponents, you should win at either regular or turbo SNGs.

As a beginner I would play normal SNGs first. A site like Bodog has beginner SNGs that payout to top 5 spots instead of 3 and is a great place to learn SNGs.......

re: Turbo or Normal SITnGO? poker Stay away from turbos. Poker is a game which needs patience and for that you need time. Try and play games where the blinds are at least 8 mins and preferable 10 mins or more. Turbos were introduced by the sites to speed up turnover and therefore the rake they take. Don't put yourself under pressure because the blinds are increasing too quickly.

never play turbos! they are fun and quick, but higher varience! you (whether a pro or beginner) always need any edge you can take and good play is rewarded in normal sit an goes much more often than turbos. plz don't listen to anyone who says otherwise, its as simple as that.

Want to wish you luck and more more piece of advice. I'm finding that the lower buy-in's are almost like a turbo game because it seems that people tend to go all-in with just about any two cards - sometime you get 4-5 of the 10 people seated going in the first hand. I've not understood this and when I ask, the answer is typically "it's only a dollar"... my advise is to be careful te first could of hand to see how your thable plays.

TO play turbos you really want to know what the basic strategy is of a sng. THEN.. you really want to be good at I.C.M. stuff and the shove/fold game (and NEED to be familiar with stuff like fold equity and why it's important to try to maintain a decent enough sized stack that you'll still have some as the blinds go up). Alot of beginner players will often think that Turbos are a big gamble with alot of loose players shoving indiscriminantly. Sure there are a few sometimes at the start of the game but most often they are not winning regulars. In a turbo there is less room for error which gives you an oppurtunity to take advantage of the errors made by your opponents. As a beginner I'd recommend reg. speed sngs. Take advice from above,... always play less hands than you figure you should be playing. Look to see the guys who seem to be folding hand after hand after hand in the early stages cuz these will more than likely be the guys who are still in it when it gets close to the bubble. You don't have to win very many hands to cash in a sng. The objective is to get to the bubble and to do so on a decent enough stack so that when it comes to the shove/fold game (which it inevitably gets to in most sngs unless there's a bunch of players going out early) you will still have some fold equity (when you shove to steal blinds you won't be auto-called due to having so few chips). 'Winning hands' does not equal 'winning sngs' (another rookie mistake). Positioning youself to play a strong game at the bubble and then aggressively going for first is 'winning style for sngs'. There is alot of sng material on the internet from basic stuff to advanced. I'd suggest reading thru a bunch of it prior to taking a shot at these games. If you do, you'll be ahead of a bunch of the field of super micro sngs. On that note... start out at low buyin level and then gradually work your way up when you feel you are ready. Another thing, I'd stick to 9plyr. games as opposed to 18 or 27. You might find stronger players in the 9-plyr. games but the game is far better imo. (I think alot of the players who reg. in the 18-plyr. games do so because it pays out top 4 instead of top 3). 18plyr. games have a slightly different strategy than the 9's. What I'm saying I guess is... stick to one so you can work at mastering it first instead of jumping all around to different games (I made this mistake in my first 6mos. of sngs). I could pm you with an excellent SNG strategy article if you want. Just pm me and I'll pass it along to you. I'd post it here but then I'd have to kill all who read it. GL on the tables!

re: Turbo or Normal SITnGO? poker normal sngs builds up your game until you get comfortable... play turbos only when you already understand more advance stuffs such us playing positions, steals and resteals... when to bluff... etc... continuous learning is the key to when to switch to where.

I would say go with regular for now.Untill you get the feel of mtts, because u can get far behind in turbo if u take to long to make moves. But it depends on how u play.If u play agressive and get of to fast starts maybe turbos would be good for u but if u are a tight player in the beginning i would reccommend a reg toun.

I was searching around the site for what the rules are about posting something that was written by somebody else.... is this allowed?.. and what would one need to include if they were to do so? (ie. name of author and where it was posted??... what if it's on another forum... is that okay to post that?). One of the reasons I ask is, 'Jennifear' has an excellent article about whether or not to play 'turbos' or 'regs.' and I think it would be pretty enlightening to most of the posters here on this thread. (Jennifear is a successful low limit SNG player who also coaches low limit SNG play).

between turbo, and regular definitly the turbo i would say. I like turbos because usally in turbos within the first 5-10 minutes if you play the 6 man sit and go's there are usually 2 or 3 people that go out. and 1st and 2nd place gets money.so if you only play good hands, and stay out of huge pots you can place real easily, just my two cents but i like playing the turbos, and on players only i play the ultra turbos
