| True Grinder: The Ultimate Grind. Alright, I'm back at it again. Only this time, I'll be starting the grind with -$0.00. I pissed away my old BR when I suffered 2 consecutive all in beats when I was called with a 96 suited or some shit like that. Anyway, Instead of depositing $100 into PS next month, I've decided to build my BR from play money chips. When I realized this was legitimately possible, I first rolf & lmao and then I jumped right on it. For those of you who don't know, you get roughly (prices vary [supply/demand]) $10 cash for 1 million play money chips and it's 100% legal and PS doesn't give a damn. Their only rule is "Don't talk about it at at the tables", period. Think about it, why would you spend all your time playing freerolls where you have some decent players mixed in with an overwhelmingly majority of the luckiest donks around the globe. On top of that, you need a crapload of luck, no matter how skilled you are, in your tourney that has 5000+ entants to even place!! Why would you play at the microiest of micro limits where there are both donks and decent/learning players mixed in? That ultimately leads to a serious apprenice of the game being frustrated more than he needs to be, poor decision making and the inability to evaluate your poker game (that your working so hard to improve) properly. Why grind like that when you are able to play for play money and know that all competiors are 100% DONKS?!!! 100% guaranteed...or your play money reloaded! Your decision making at the table is so much easier this way and your chances of winning go way up because you know they are going to play shit, and call you with it 100% of the time! On top of that, if you play something like I'll describe, you'll develope patients if you allow yourself to. All you need to do is get to 4000 chips, jump to a 9 player 100/200 blind game that has a few 6 figure players, and wait for premiums and a nice flop...All in! You might want a little more than 4000, but its up to you. Anyway, before you know it, you'll be buying in @ 40k and quadrupling up. You'll also be surprised @ how many times your Top pair with a 9 kicker will do the job in many all in situations. Just be on the look out for aces. Basically, you fold when an ace hits the board unless you have a high kicker...no matter what. Its a sure thing that someone has an ace. These guys go all in with A,3 preflop honestly thinking its a good play, so beware of your KK preflop. Also, these guys limp in every singly hand, and unless you raise 10k (100/200 blinds), they aren't going away. So, use that to your advantage, and don't let it bust you out. If you raise 2-5k with a pocket pair and everyone limps in, but you miss your set, fold. There will be plenty of other double, triple, quadruple up opportunities, I promise. Don't try to play the player like you would in a real game because these guys are impossible to read/bluff, and it would be a waste of time. "Don't bluff an idiot" especially if you never have to. If you get pushed around/ possibly bluffed a few times, so what, let it go. Eventually, they will come to you, so just play the cards and wait for the sure thing. Theres a liiiiittle more to it, but you'll figure it out. I seriously advise multi-tabling while doing this. I play 4 tables at a time, and since there was 0 pressure, the playmoney tables proved to be the perfect learning grounds for becoming accustomed to multi-tabling. Confusion, hasty decision making...all gone. Granted, the decisions you make here are childsplay, but I still felt cluttered when I started and I no longer do. Baby steps... Now, everyday I hit a million, I'll update it here. After starting out with 1,000 chips, eventually buying in at 10,000 and earning 750k Chips in three days, my plan is to accumulate 15 million play chips, and turn them into a starting Bankroll of $150. I should be able to pull this off in under 30 days since I now buy in at 40,000. That will give me 30 Buy-in's for the .25NL tables. I'll finally have weeded out enough donks to lessen the beats and slightly improve my play, but have enough around help out my BR. BTW, Phil, no worries man, we'll start up again in a month and I'll be ready for some more coaching. Feel free to join in!!! P.S. I have a few in mind, but If anyone could PM me a few trustworthy sites that will buy my chips, I'd appriciate it |

| Just wondering: Wouldn't it be easier to just deposit and then grind real money? 2nl and play money aren't that much different. You also have a decent concept on how you would approach the game and it's weak players, so why not take that to the 2nl tables? Especially since you're confidence enough that you'll crush play money and make 15M in a month. |

| lol it would be a lot easier man. Thing is I like experiments like this and I also like free money . Plus I desprately need dicipline! Update: Okay, missed most of a day, but I still managed to pull out 1.5 mil. Lookin good so far. These play money tables are perfect for practicing and honing your hand odd skills. When I started, it took awhile to come up with the odds. I don't have them memorized yet, but I can tell they are starting to click and become automatic. No doubt that the MTTing helps tremendously with this. I give myself another weak to have them down on the fly. These guys defy the odds quite a bit, so don't let that get to you and keep going through those odds, and stay tight. Remember your only here to build BR, but you can still learn a lot. |

I think every good poker player should have a solid strategy to employ against absolute morons, as it will come in handy more than you would think. Heck, it would probably make you more cash in live casino games as well. |

If you can go from $3 to $75 back down to $0 in two weeks, it doesn't sound like you're attempting to "grind". Grinding is winning money at a slow rate consistently. |

| Church, I am attempting to grind, but I messed up along the way. Shit happens, but my main problem is discipline which is essential if your . I get sucked out and lose it because some of their plays are so damn retarded. I know what my problem is but it can't be fixed over night, so I'm working on it. D'wilis, the point of the thread is to turn the play money into a starting bankroll. A $150 starting Bankroll and the thread continues from there. Despite what you obviously think, though I'm not one of them, everyone who enjoys poker can't just dump $100 into a poker site... sometimes not even $10. Not seeing whats so difficult to understand. As far as my play goes, I'll be first to say I'm an amateur, but I know I have improved and I'm 100% on that. Suck outs have gotten to me in the past and I lose my cool. I just need to work on surviving the down swing, all there is to it. If your not interested, feel free not to post in the thread. Update Well, for whoever is interested, I'm now at 2.5 mil or $20-$25 if I chose to sell the chips. Thread making sense now? Much easier than I thought it would be so far. We'll see how overblown the title is when I'm done...whoever is interested Last edited by Liveone1 : 25th November 2008 at 2:14 PM. |

...btw there is already a bankroll challenge (from $0) thread where you can update with other members instead of making it all about "The Legend of the True Grinder", in theatres 2016. Last edited by D'wilius : 25th November 2008 at 3:20 PM. |

You act like I have a website up or some shit and need exposer. This is just meant to be motivation for some, as well as something for me to reflect on later, and have people join in. Somehow people like you always find something to bitch about. The thread has a catchy title, so what? How is that even something to complain about? You even came back into the thread after you expressed how uninterested you were to check out my next post. Seriously, get off my jock dude... your full of it. If you want to see this thread go away, stop adding to its post count and making it pop back up since you hate that so much. What were you doing here in the first place criticizing someones play whos posting in the "Learning Poker" section of the boards? lol... Glad you think I'm a legend in the making though. Double-A: This play money thing seems to be working out pretty well atm and its actually pretty fun. I don't see a deposit in the near future (not with my money at least )! Update Session isn't done yet, but since I'm here...2.75 mil! |

Yeah, look around. All I do is bitch. I'm going to check back on threads I've posted in to answer if anyone is talking to me, which you were. Expressing that I couldn't understand what the thread was about... Quote:
I wasn't insulting your play, just saying you weren't grinding if you went up and down that fast, which you confirmed in your next post. I was annoyed with your condescending "thread make sense now" so I insultingly explained what I didn't like about it. You threw some insults back, let's end it there. I'll be the dick, you'll be the self absorbed guy Good luck with your challenge, I'll leave it alone now. |

| your gonna play really bad when you get to the real money, ive played in the big play money games, they suck. i dont think the pay out is worth it especially you will develop some bad habits as someone else said earlier in this thread |

| re: True Grinder: The Ultimate Grind. poker WELL, sounds like you are interested in working on your discipline...that is best accomplished by playing with real money, in my view. Lose enough REAL money, and if you are still willing to play, you will be disciplined, believe me. Or you'll be broke and not playing anymore. If your ulitmate goal is to develope some discipline, and you are broke, ok, then get your BR together by winning play chips and converting, but I bet you that you will develope bad habits. But hey, GOOD LUCK! |

| Damn all of you putting voodoo on me with your "bad habits" blasphemy. pcjr: I was hoping you could tell me! Well things have slowed down a bit. No, woulda, coulda, shouldas this update, but I haven't played much the past few days and am at 2.5 mil. Lost like 4 80k SNGs. By lost I mean finished in 5th and 6th place. Its really easy to get 1st, 2nd in these things so theres really no excuse for not finishing in the money. 2.5 Mil...not bad for a week. Still running at a good pace. Won't update again 'till I reach 5 mil...tomorrow |

Edit: I've done some research and it looks like PSCS and BBBullets are where the money is at! They've been around for awhile, and have great reps. After searching it doesn't seem like this play money thing is uncommon at all. Last edited by Liveone1 : 29th November 2008 at 9:44 PM. |

| I've been thinking about the Playmoney thing... for a couple of days now, and I just don't like it. I don't think that it is close enough to real play to help you out in the long run. I could be wrong, but I believe that you would be better off just depositing real money and working on your real game. |

| If i was you as soon as i hot 1m 80k i would sell 1 mill take the ten and play 1 dollar sngs with it. If you lose then you have 80k to turn into 1m 80k again. I'm saying do this because play money sucks and they arent even buying it for ten dollars a mil anymore i think. I think you should do fine playing 1 dollar sngs and if you lose you can build from the 80k again so you dont have to start from 1k again and you can sit 1-200 with 20k 4 times. I won't even play at pokerstars anymore i got to much money elsewhere that i dont even bother. Private Freerolls are the way to make money. |

| Sardonix and Dknight, I think your both right. I'm sort of fed up with the play money idea. Not really fun anymore and I'm starting to feel my game slip away slowly as many on here said it would. So, what I'm going to do is sell 2 million and keep 2 million in the account in case I get cold cards. This will be a big test for me. If I can stay at the $1 SNG's until I hit $100, I will be able to say my discipline has improved. If I can wait it out until I hit $200-300 to move up to $3 SNG's, I can say I've improved tremendously. If I can wait it out to $500 move up to $5 SNG's then I'll consider myself a grinder. Though I wasn't able to make it to 15 million due to boredom, I can tell you, through my experiences, that it can be done...and quite easily. Only thing is, its not for everyone. So, if your trying to get a BR started and feel like you have no options, play money is definitely that option. It'll take patients, and you'll learn to deal with beats. Of course the beats will feel different when you play for cash, but since you are treating your play chips as the real deal I feel like its adequate training which is important because most of our losses (or mine anyway) come from tilting. I've e-mailed PSCS and am currently waiting for their reply. When they send the e-mail, the real grind begins. |

| The Grind is 100% possable. I won 32 dollars in a freeroll at cake poker. I stuck to 1 dollar sngs and 2-4c cash tables with a max buy in of $4. I told myself if i went down to 15 bucks i would only play 1 dollar sngs but i never went down. That was 2 months ago, now im up to 300 bucks in my account and ive sold my friend 160 bucks of my winnings. He buys 20 bucks off me everyday lol so i make 20 and he buys it. I USED to be a losing player because i didnt have any self control and freerolls and play money do ruin your style of play thats why i recommend as soon as you can leave that scene. GL |
