survival in full tilt omaha freerolls Hi, last night i played in the omaha high PL freeroll on full tilt and finish 39/2400 (top 27 make the money). it is kinda frustrating to play for over 3 hours and not make the money, but that's how it goes sometimes. i was talking to my roommate and he suggests that sitting out in the omaha tournaments is a garuntee if you can get a decent early stack. with these tournaments there are no antes so you can make your stack last a lot longer, but i'm not convinced that sitting out is a good way to get to the top 27. i was among the top 10 just before the first break with about 25k-30k. at the top 27 the chip average would be about 133k (2400 x 1500 / 27) so even if you were to get to the top 27 by sitting out, you wouldnt get much farther than that. does anyone have any suggestions on how to suceed in these seemingly impossible freerolls?

Sitting out is a terrible way to win, it usually doesn't work and it's a waste of a seat IMO. I've cashed in a few of those freerolls and I think the key is to build up a stack (at least 50k) by the 3rd break and play tight-aggressive from there on. If you get 25-30k by the first break, that's a great start. However, there are still around 1000 players left at this point so it's not too important. By the third break, there will probably be 200-300 players or less, so this is where you really need to accumulate chips. In terms of Omaha strategy, I would try to play as many well-connected hands (double suited and 4 to a straight) as possible at this point, since they have great potential to hit big and bust people. Hope this helps.

re: survival in full tilt omaha freerolls poker As said above sitting out is not really a good strategy. Shamefully I have to admit that I've done it twice and floated ITM. Both times I was so terribly tired that I hit the keyboard with my face at 7:50 am. I discussed a rule of thumb when to sit out and float with divebitch in another thread relating to PS - though that was a round 1 freeroll with 99 qualifing for round two. If you must sit out for one reason or another it may be safe being in 13th position or better with 55 players remaning (this counts for FT Plo). Nevertheless you'll never win the FR by sitting out, obviously. Cashing 2$ might not be worth playing for 3h just to sit out the last hour. It would be way better to improve your game and really take it down. Finishing 39th isn't a bad start either, you may have potential. Attached Images ...as you can see I was too tired to shrink the screenshot and couldn't delete it either (too drowsy to find the button) ...and I finished 8th..... lol.

When you get close to the money people play tight and the ante's are much higher... since people play tighter and have more chips your going to see more blinds per person that goes out and are more likely to blind out while not watching.. If you are 5 people away with a decent stack definitely i recommend taking a bathroom or food break for 10 mins.. You really dont want to be that guy but if you are more than 10 people away you need to play.. Otherwise you will be extremely low stacked when you come back if you survive to the money.

i have succeeded in getting to the final table of that tournament and actually placed 5th. If you think about it, the total of minutes where you dont get into the hand would accumulate for over an hour at least. So there is some true logic behind the recommendation of sitting out for an hour. I build up a 4x the starting stack in the first hour of that tourney. I took the following hour off basically. I do this to make sure truly all the Donkeys are out of the tournament. What works for me is that I dont raise most of my great starting hands, i.e AKQJ suited or not, AAKQ. I will only raise in the lmid and late stages of the tournament if there are more than 2 limpers and the blinds are at least 500/1000. This has worked with me and was able to make top 27 in 4 of the last 7 omaha tournaments i've entered this week.

re: survival in full tilt omaha freerolls poker Could work, but to win the whole thing i would prefer to be there when the idiots aree just giving it away. Usuall these"idiots" are gone after 45 minutes unless they have been extremely unlucky. Instead id show play ultra tight and isolate when you get a big hand. About a quarter of the field in these will call and play down with any 4 cards regardless of flop/turn/river.
