Starting a bankroll. Hello I have been playing for 3 years now and have deposited some money on Stars. I break even 50.00$ buy-in, received 50.00$ check. Kind of funny right. Now I'll be trying a new method to better myself in bankroll management. So I will be playing Play Money SitNGo, starting in the 300+20 9ppl level . When i reach 12500 chip count I will bump up a Level. 2......25000= 320.20 18ppl 3......34000= " " " 27ppl 4......70000= " " " 45ppl Currently I have 15000 chips! "!!!only 55000 to go!!!" If I'm able to do so I should be ready to play some real SitNGo's. Or is this just a waste of time, because play money players play in sutch a crazy manner, that my goal is unreachable because of very bad play that they bring to the table? Tell me what you think.

It is an interesting experiment. I played a lot of play money SNGs before I started playing cash SNGs. I was killing the play money. When I moved to cash I lost the first 6 or 7 badly. The tactics that worked in the play money just didn't produce results for me in cash. I had to develop a new game plan to see any success. But that was me, hopefully it works out better for you. Best of luck.

practice is always a good thing to get the feel of how to play a particular kind of game or tourney so as long as your learning it is not a waste of time . just remember to play ur game and dont worry about how other players approach the game yes its play money but object is still to win!!!

re: Starting a bankroll. poker id say its a waste of time though man. i personally just did this on FT and got up to 750K chips within a week...it seems like good practice when in reality its just ppl not caring and wanting to pay you off jus to see what you have. jus start playin for real cash now imo...grind out some micro limits

In my experience the 10,000 play money sit and goes don't play much worse than the $1 real money ones on Stars. It's not exactly comparable because there will be some better players in the real money ones, players who just don't have the bankroll to play higher, but also some worse ones that deposited and don't know as much as the players at the 10,000 play money players do, so the field tends to be a wider range. To collect enough play money to be able to play the higher buyin sit and goes the players have to have played successfully for a bit so the general play is more homogeneous than the real money ones, where people can play just by depositing whatever they feel like depositing.

re: Starting a bankroll. poker So, you've been playing at the play money tables for a year and a half? Definitely a waste of time, dude! In half of that time I brought my bankroll from 0 to $1300. And meanwhile you probably got a lot of bad habits that will be hard to correct when you come to the real money tables. If you don't want to deposit, at least play the freerolls to make some money and take shots at the lowest stakes.

re: Starting a bankroll. poker In my opinion, play money is just that (PLAY) and while you can get some very basic experience like calling, raising, etc it really has no place in real money games. For the most part the players in play money games call and raise with anything while in real money games the playing is vastly different for the most part. I played and still do play a lot of freerolls and IMAO that would be a better way to gain experience but again you get a lot of people that call with anything. I won $50 in a WSOP qualifier and have built that up into a bigger br. I do not do good in cash buy in tournys or cash games. I play mostly sngs for money and just about anything for a freeroll. It has taken me some time to find my niche but I did it through free rolls.

When I first thought about playing for real money on line. I tried play money first just to see if I could win there. I played at the POKERROOM which only had play money tables at the time. But they did have prizes. They gave away t-shirts to the player that won the most play money each week. I won 3 in about 3 months. So I took the plunge into real money at PLANETPOKER. Lost my bankroll the first night. lol Next I deposited on PARADISEPOKER. My bankroll lasted about 6 months there. busto there. Then I read books, went to casinos for real games and read everything on line about poker. Since then I have been on most all online pokerrooms and show a profit on most of them. Winning at play money is a learning experiment. I say do it. Why not?
