Maybe it's better to read articles online about the ''standard'' poker game. After you understand the articles...read a book.

THB if you are completely new I would go with the articles to begin with. http://www.cardschat.com/poker-strategy.php Most beginners books are pretty much the same. The tell you about pot odds, implied odds, expected value, bluffing frequency and of course.. starting hands. All of this is contained in the articles here. Read and understand those first.. then think about getting a book. Reading books on poker is very important.. but, honestly, you wont get any more beginners information in a book than you get in these articles... however these articals are free and a book is about $30. Save that $30 and put it into your bankroll (bankroll management is also included in the articles)

post some of the hands that you have lost a bit on.. and some of the ones that you feel were played well in the hand analysis section. People will critique them. Don't be too upset if you find the ones you thought were badly played get ripped apart.. you will learn from that. Also some of the ones you felt were good.. may turn out to just be lucky.. be prepared for people to criticize your big win hand too. However you will learn an awful lot from the criticism and then people will be able to suggest specific books for you to read in order to improve. Remember this poker thing wont happen overnight. Best of luck

I think the important thing is to just keep studying keep studying, especially reviewing your sessions and utilizing the tools available in PT, HEM, PO or whatever you're using for your stats. Look at how you play in different positions, how you do with different starting hands, different board textures, etc.. and try to find your BIG leaks and plug them. It looks like you're like me and close to be profitable at the micros and just need to figure out how to get over that hump. |

At micro-stakes, you can make money by simply waiting for people to give it to you combined with not giving as much back. As an admitted simplification, it's a game of playing for stacks. How often depends on your tolerance for swings. Theoretically, if you win a little over 50% of your stack hands and break even on the rest, you'll come out ahead. However, playing for your stack when you feel you're not much better than a 50% is swingier than most people are comfortable with.
