Specific Question to a Situation Hey all, Relatively new to poker and play for the fun of it have a group of people together at my house and we play weekly. Ran into a situation last Sat night and not sure what the rules say, so here goes: The games Texas Hol em - showdown Community cards: 8910JQ (straight for all) Two Players in show down: Player 1: 88 Plaser 2: KK Who wins? Obviously both players claim the comunity - straight. So the the individual hands are compared. Player 1 is claiming three-of a-kind with the his pair of 8s and the comunity 8. Can he do that? Player 2 complains that the comunity cards have been "used" for the straight and cannot be used/claimed again for the 3-of-a kind. In this case player 2 wins. If this is not true then player 1 wins. Help please, we couldn't work it out, neither was the mood dandy between these players there off. Thanks in advance. -Jeen

The combination of the highest five cards from hole and community cards wins. here: Player 1: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() a straight - Queen high(hole cards ![]() unused)Player two: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() a straight King high( ![]() unused )Obviously player 2 wins. note: If player two didn't have the King it would have been a SPLIT-POT since both players would have showed a straight Q high.

Mistake Hey all, Thanks for your replies; sorry I a made a mistake, correct in this scenario as I stated king high straight wins. Okay the situation really though was - that the straight was 56789 and player a) KK player b) 77 Sorry about that who wins like this: both have the same straight, on comparing hand, can player b) utlise the common cards to call a 777? Thanks so much!

I'm sure the player holding KK would be more than happy to let the player holding 77 claim his set. After all, the straight on the board would beat the set, so the player with 77 would lose. The actual result (as SAH89 said) is a split, where the pot is divided evenly between both players. I ran into a similar situation at a home tournament once. I was head's up at the end, and we had a hand that was something like this: Hero: A8 Villan: AJ Board: AQ776 He wanted to claim the whole pot because he had a 'better kicker'. It took me about five minutes of explaining that his J didn't play before he agreed to split the pot, and he still didn't seem convinced.
