Special 1k Post: So You Want To Become a Cash Game Player (A Guide)

As a very special thank you to CardsChat.com, I put together this 11 page PDF guide on how to become a cash game player. It is best read by those who are either not playing for real money (yet!) or are SNG/MTT types that really want to try out the world of cash game poker. You know how to play ... you just don't know how to get started and need someone to point you in all the right directions.

This guide has the following highlights:

- Awesome Introduction by ME
- Where to play online
- The Best Deposit Methods
- Tracking Software (PokerTracker / Holdem Manager)
- Online Poker Communities
- Picking the right level & game
- Strategy Resources (how to be a better poker player)
- When to move up / move down
- Dealing With Tilt
- Video Capture
- Blogging

Consider this my thank you to CardsChat and this is where it will be exclusively hosted. Again, this guide isn't for someone who has been playing cash games for 6 months and wants to "be a better player" (although they would do good by looking at the strategy resource section). But this WILL answer a lot of your questions and save you a lot of time looking for answers.

Terrific work.

You should keep this as a work in progress, and add chapters as and when.

Thanks - this is really good. It is very timely for me as I am just now starting my serious cash game playing.

Will discuss with the other mods and Nick a good place for it. (It does link to other forums and places that have poker site links so have to get Nick involved).

Lots of kudos to Cardschat included though - thanks for that bit too!

ice,

Get in touch with Nick, I'm pretty sure he would be delighted to add this to the strategy/articles section and give it adequate pimpage.

Really good work.

edit: wait i'm an idiot it's hosted on CC already so obviosuly you've been chatting to nick. still, some pimpage needs to occur in the strat section.

Good stuff Ice.

Couple of points though:

1) PT3 is much better now than it was when you last used it. I haven't had it crash for several betas now.

2) FTP has very recently changed their policy on datamining. It's now forbidden. More info here, Online Poker at Full Tilt Poker - Legal Information: Prohibited Programs. There is still some debate on how this effects personal datamining for table selection.

WOW! Thanks for the love guys ... last night I went to see if anyone commented and I had only 11 reads and 0 replies and I was thinking "boo!" but man I wake up and see all the love. AWESOME!!!

FYI - yes, I did contact Nick before posting this and he wanted something to beef up the LEARNING POKER section of the site, and I think this guide is best served here myself. I hope it does get stickied and definitely there will be a part 2, but probably not for another 1k posts

Excellent stuff Ice, and a very strong writing style, accessible and engaging. You manage to convey a lot of information without patronising or overcomplicating which is a skill.

A+

It will be stickied - we are just working out in how many places cause it is so good. It should be in the Golden Archives as well.

I for one did not see it until today cause I had major computer issues last night.

Icemonkey for president imo.

Thanks Irexes and Dakota. I actually have written freelance (as some already know) and actually was recently even offered a *very small time* poker writing gig. Go figure.

And I'll take Dakota's nomination for President. I do not belong to a political party poker and just tackle the issues. I'm pro-USA and con-Evil.
