SNG Notetaking Okay I am starting to build a roll on ft and am playing daily dollar sattys and when I am feeling confident and alert 2.25 9 man turbos.I am color coding the troublesome and maniacs red and fishy weaker players green but besides that I am stuck on what I should be looking for in taking notes. I know that once I start taking notes it is going to help me in concentrating on putting players on hands betting pattern and such. Can anyone give some tips on where to start? I am also thinking on investing in a tool like pt3 or hem what are your guys takes on which is best and why? I have trialed them about a year ago but was using them for ring. sit n go wizard is next, Thanx for your time and help in this

I generally don't put too many notes in, but I like to know who limps in with premium hands, who tends to push all in with the nuts in the hope of a caller, who will try and trap an opponent, even if it means checking on the river. I do play quite a number of STT's, and I don't seem to find myself going against those whose notes I've added very often.

I'll put stuff in like, "shoved with nuts on turn" or "will call down with 2nd pair" or "can't fold top pair/no kicker" in when I see specific behavior. Or if they can make good folds I'll put a note in that they are bluffable. Basically, your stats will tell you a lot. But stuff like shoving their big hands when they don't need to, or calling down weak, are things I want to know to exploit should that circumstance arrive.

the notes i ever seem to take down on anyone are "idiot" "total jackass" or "nice person" (as in we had a good talk for whatever reason). if you're playing sng's or mtt's in micro buy-ins. all you need to worry about noting anyone as is a total moron...because they are the most dangerous. they call you're AA 4BB raise with a 27s because they're on the BB. they'll call because their 27 is of hearts and 1 heart hits the flop, even though you hit your 3rd ace. they'll call again because a heart hit the turn...and whether or not they win or lose on the river...they'll show you their hand because they were OOP...IF they call on the riv...and if they don't hit the flush or whatever they were fishing for, you can take note they're a total chaser. i usually take note in extreme cases of retardation...about as often as just putting a marker on someone who i thought was cool, so i can say hi if we ever play again.

I color code in 3 ways: green for "idiot", red for loose aggressive, and dark blue for tight aggressive. I might also put notes on whether they limp a lot or use an all-in move to bluff a pot. Collin Moshman's Sit and Go book has a nice section on what to be noting.

I use notes on a semi-frequent basis. Sometimes when I am looking for a table to play, I might be more inclined to choose a table where i have some notes on some players. However all the notes i have been taking haven't been helping. lol.....Same notes, different players.

I colour code (different ones for average / solid / dangerous players, fish and nits) and take notes on a few different things. Usually things like: - Whether they're generally risk affined or risk averse - What combination of loose / tight / passive / aggressive they tend to be - Whether they defend their blinds - What hands they won't get away from (TPTK, any pair, etc) - How low they'll open betting (any pair, only two pair or better, etc) - Whether they multitable I don't get too specific because I think that can be a bit counterproductive, but with that sort of information I can generally get a picture of, say, whether I'll be ahead of a villain's range if I shove AT preflop and get called. It's true that you probably won't see the majority of them ever again, but when you do you've got a head start on them. And I find it helps even over the course of that one game, because multitabling it can get kinda difficult to remember what read you had on what person on which table, so the notes and colour codes are handy for that.

| yellow - someone who will limp then fold to a raise or made any weak play where I may \be able to push them off a hand light blue - will make some bad calls with marginal hands. might chase a draw w/ok odds dark blue - will make bad calls with junk hands. will chase a str8 draw on a paired board w/out odds orange - like to limp in w/AA or might check top pair or trip on the flop. red - these players fight for every pot there in. 2sng9 - $2.25 9 player sit and go 1sng45 - $1.25 45 player sit and go hblf - high blinds limped then folded to a raise mbcf - medium blinds completed the SB then folded to BB's raise lbR6x w/KK - low blinds raised 6 times the BB with pocket kings i do make sure i mark the event im in. i didnt really know how to explain all my notes or my short hand. but hope this helps. I have HEM and have a color code i use for the stack sizes. and am thinking of tweaking a few color of stats here and there. if you do end up getting HEM or PT3 i'll let you know my stats of my HUD too. | re: SNG Notetaking poker I use the color code system most often and sometimes put in notes if the player gets caught chasing or tends to make a large bet or go all in preflop. In tournaments, I seldom see the people I have put any notes or color codes on, though. That happens more in the play chip ring games. |

I take notes on what starting hands people use to try to get a read on their range. Call down , Bet with overcards. Just about anything to help me know the player better when I face them again. Also I put notes like... "I want to punch this donk in his face" LOL I play mostly on Pokerstars and see players with Notes Ive written pretty often. I actually downloaded the trial version of SnG wizard the other day. I have NO IDEA how to use it so its not even getting opened up again probably. Actually Im gonna post a new thread and try to get some help on using it. But, IMO, Notes are a good thing.
