You may want to take into consideration that for Miller, "small stakes" means levels like $1/$2 and $2/$5. And he mostly writes about live. He's not talking about the micro-stakes levels that are available online. That said, my standard suggestion to beginners is to build a solid base. Learn to play a solid TAG style well enough to win consistently first before trying to do more. Although some players have the talent and work ethic to leap ahead by learning intermediate and advanced concepts soon after starting, most do not - myself included.

your correct i hadnt considered that, i will order the beginners edition and read that rather than trying to run before walking, im working hard on the tight game, the agression is not comming so easy, still find myself limping alot as im finding on the micro cash tables that opening with a raise seems to get evryone folding and i get no value from good hole cards. probally i need to work on that harder....many thanks for the advice.

reading the intro he says "even though this is not a beginners book, a beginning player can start with this book. we present the immportant fundamental ideas (tight pre flop play, calculating drawing odds, and pot odds descussion on when to fold a hopeless hand ect) we just do not emphasize and repeat them as a beginners book would. a begginner will just have to study the book more thoroughly" so maybe ill read it?

re: small stakes holdem poker If you find tables that fold to you every time you open the betting, then simply open the betting more often. Not this doesn't mean go crazy; it means increase how often you open, especially in LP, until the opponents react. If they keep folding, you won't get more value from you big hands, but you will get some every time you open a hand you wouldn't have before and they all fold to you.
