| Should I not Raise More? I tend to Raise the Exact Same Size when I'm first to enter a pot (Depending on Blind Levels)...I usually do anywhere From 3.5x-2.5x as the Blinds Increase....Now here's my Main Concern Take this Hand for Example.... PokerStars Hand Converter from HandHistoryConverter.com BB (t4645) UTG (t5904) UTG+1 (t6597) MP1 (t2761) Hero (MP2) (t8252) CO (t4368) Button (t6577) SB (t5680) Hero's M: 8.97 Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 4 , A![]() 3 folds, Hero bets t1000, 4 folds Total pot: t1320 Results: Hero didn't show 4 , A (nothing).Outcome: Hero won t1320 As you Can All see it's Cheap for the BB to Call me Correct? 600:1900+ so He's getting 3:1 to see a flop which is Pretty Decent Odds...So My Main Concern is Should'nt I be Raising More with Marginal Hands such as this, So that way they are less likely to want to call, or Exactly what Should I do, because If I start raising More with Weak Hands, Then I also hand to start raising More with Premo hands, and I don't really like this, and it also makes my bluffs harder when the Pot is Much Bigger and It gives away my good hands when I do have the goods... So Plz help me with this problem |

| 2.5x always... 3x if your too lazy to type. edit: if your playing with unknowns (moved to new table, etc.) then obviously raise 3X with your premiums. the difference between 2.5 - 3bb is rarely ever going to change their range against you. | It really depends imo (mainly on my reads on the rest of the table) - I tend to bet even less when opening in mid positions (bit larger in EP). 2.1-2.5x BB - Reason being that these bets will make opponents fold as much as any bigger bet whereas you don't lose that much when you are 3bet shoved upon and forced to fold. Also your c-bet will be smaller. I would have bet 900 there probably. Another thought: BB (t4645) = M<8 UTG (t5904) UTG+1 (t6597) MP1 (t2761) Hero (MP2) (t8252) CO (t4368) = M<8 Button (t6577) = M~11 SB (t5680) = M~9.5 All opponents acting behind you are getting shortstacked or are already short and might start 3bet shoving just this very moment. | Since all the stacks behind us are small, we want to make it as small as possible as they are pretty much going to either 3bet or fold (with occasional calls depending on the table texture (if they are calling stations behind us, you may want to just fold this pre. with the stack setup the way it is, a simple min-raise will usually get the job done. Especially if we are planning to fold to a shove. 800 lets us get away cheaper, the pot is smaller if they do decide to call, and we're still charging most of the stacks behind us a decent chunk of their stack if they do wish to call (you want to aim for ~10% of their stack). I totally disagree with making it a set amount all the time, other factors come into play, like stack situations, table texture, how large the stacks are behind us, how likely they are to 3bet etc etc etc. |

Your logic of 'raising more' is flawed because you're pricing yourself in if pretty much any of them 3bai. |

| I don't remember who, but some pros advocate adjusting your opening size by position. More in EP since you're OOP and have more opponents to get through, and less in better positions. Another consideration is the player in the BB. The amount of your bet only matters if the player will react differently. Against those who don't notice or who just "play their cards" the same way regardless of your bet size, you can vary your sizing because it won't matter. |

| some advice i have read that apply's to micro's. with a medium strengh hand and you want to 'steal' the blinds, bet the minimum that you think they will fold to. with a premium hand that you will commit with bet the maximum that you think they will call. the 3xbb in micro is a mistake because a lot of the players dont pay attention. higher limits are different thats what the book says. what dya think ? |
