Should I have folded?

I went to the casino to play poker $1/$2. My first hand was a KK. Everyone limped in. The flop was:

4 6 7 (with two hearts in the flop)

Someone raised to $12
Everyone folded and I re-raised to $24.00

He then raised to $110.00 and I folded.

The reason I folded was i thought he either hit a set or had two pair.

Was it the right move?

1st off, why did we not raise with KK? 2nd, def folding on flop.

I think he bluffed and you folded best hand here.
You didn't raise preflop and that is why he played so stong with air.

To answer this we need to know:

Stack sizes
Your position
And if you have a read (I know it says first hand..) How had the opponent been playing in previous hands (tight? loose? passive? aggressive?)

I had $200.00 exactly; he had more or less $250.
I was the big blind.
He was aggressive I'd say.

I agree, should have raised KK preflop.

Raise to $15 preflop. As played, sigh fold the flop and hate yourself for limping

I agree, he would have had a hard time staying in when you're raising 7.5 BBs if he had anything that would have made a straight, a set, or two pair on the flop.

I know its hard to raise preflop sometimes with what seems like an unbeatable hand scaring everyone off and instead no reraising and hoping they catch a smaller pair so that you can take their stack, but in the long run it's most profitable to reraise and hope someone has an AK, AQ, smaller pair, etc.

Think of it like this... You paid $26 to learn a valuable lesson of ALWAYS raise KK (well maybe not always, but pretty close). Since this is your first hand many will call to see if you are a donk and be shocked and give instant cred when they pay you off and see KK.

If you raise to 3-5BB (depends on # of limpers when gets to you) then you may get 1-2 callers you can mostly throw out str8, and 2pair. The only thing you are afraid of is trips (you are behind), stra8 draw (well ahead, as likely against gut stra8), and 2 hearts (A-Q high) (55-66% ahead depending on if he has the A). Maybe he has a Stra8 flush draw? but I would pay to see... Either way you figure you have the best hand and can push or let him build a pot.

Anyway the way you played it I would have folded because I would not have enough info... If you want to gamble go all in at $1/2 table I would put him either on a high flush draw, open or gut stra8 draw with an A, trips, or flopped the straight (possibly stra8 flush draw). I think overall you are looking at equity of 40-50% chance to win. So under these assumptions you could call/go all in (prob choose call as all in will only be called by hands that beat you, but in your mind you already have to have your stack committed).... But I dont completly trust these assumptions since we have no info on the player and no info on his cards cause we did not raise pre-flop.

not a 'good' fold per se, but a fold u had to make...like everyone said, gotta raise preflop, no reason to limp when 'everyone' limped in

Totally disagree with this ^ (come on.. think about it "everyone limped in"... then one guy bets into a multiway pot, HERO check-raises & villain re-raises for 1/2 stack (never folding obv.). What hand do you think we're ahead of here?

Raise pre.

Don't min raise, like basically ever, especailly on that flop - you've priced in 100% of his draws so he's not making a mistake by calling (i.e. you are losing money in the long run)

If I raise pre with KK large (say $15) and get a couple of callers you can probably just open shove that flop and get called by a ton of random crap that live donks love playing.

I was wondering why you didn't raise and raise atleast 3x the BB. If you don't raise, you will have get who will limp with 8 3 suited, or a pocket 4s. I think you made the right decision by folding. Obviously, I don't know if you hadobserved this player before, so you know whether he is a tight or loose/agressive or passive player. But next definitely raise because not only it will kick out someone's rags but it will tell you information because you know if someone calls your raise, more than likely they have a pair or atleast connected suited cards...

Raise to 20$ pre (8 man table I guess: x3BB+1BB/limper)

Repeating the obvious I'm afraid. You had to raise pre flop. Whatever he had you let him see the flop cheaply. You had to fold to his reraise after the flop.
