Really high VPIP in 2NL So I'm making my first real foray into cash games, started about a week ago with a meager $20 deposit. Been playing for about a week now and according to PokerTracker I'm at almost 23BB/100 so far at 2NL. Which sounds ok, but considering it's .02 BB's that we're talking about, and only a week's worth of samples, I'm not too excited just yet. What's worrying me is that my VPIP is 40-50 in most sessions. I hear people talk about being a fish with numbers that high, and I'm thinking that I'm making a terrible mistake with my style right now. I guess I'll explain the thought process though...I wouldn't replicate this strategy at 10NL, but at 2NL most people are limping every pot, so the price to see a flop is 2 cents...but people are sitting there buying in deep-stacked with 5 dollars. So I'm playing every speculative hand I get, even out of position. Unsuited connectors, one-gappers, Ax hands, almost anything suited. That sort of garbage. The idea is that I buy into the pot for 2 cents, maybe hit a monster on the flop and stack someone, and if not I just cut my losses and fold. I'd like to think that this could be called a loose-aggressive style and something that is viable in the micros, but I could also just be a really lucky fish. Any input from the more experienced folks here? =)

If your pfr is 30+, then this is a LAG pf style. If your pfr is 10 or less, it's loose passive. At 2nl, it prob doesn't make a difference. Postflop play is poor, so getting in to a lot of pots and playing smart postflop, even oop, isn't going to hurt much. As you say, when you move up you're going to need to adapt to table conditions, which are less likely to allow a loose passive style to play profitably.

My PFR is right around 24. So I guess that falls into the middle ground, heh. I suppose it's not the most consistant strategy. My pokertracker winnings chart looks like the Himalayas with a huge win here, a huge win there, and then slow downward ranges until the next big win. I figure variance is going to bite me in the butt big time eventually and I should tighten it up a bit.
