Question about Aces

I have been playing on PS for a couple of weeks now and my BR has not grown much at all on the .04 tables so I moved up to the .50 and $1 tables and watch it grow from $20 to $80 yesterday. My question is this:

I have noticed that most people don't even stay in unless they have a A or K or a pocket pair that is higher than J, but my method of playing that was put together for me says that if I have an A9-2s I can only call BB if I am in the middle position and raise if I am in the late position. It doesn't allow me to bet a K at all if it is pair with anything lower than a 10.

I understand the thinking behind it but I also noticed that any A has the potentail to win on these smaller stakes tables. I believ that any Ace should be called as long as it is played carefully and a K should be called as long as it is played carefully. Likewise, if the A or K is paired with a suited card it deffinately should be played as this adds the option for a high flush.

What does everyone else think on this matter?

i think is best to stick with the top few premiuem hand. if u were to play from any hands with high A n high K, i tink u would be risking with alot money as u tend to play more hands. n if it realy pair on board with ur A or K, ur kicker wuld be weak...

I think playing .50/100NL with a $20 roll, and continuing to do so with an $80 roll, is dumb.

I guess calling with an A anything in the late position is okay if the flop isn't so bad, but I wouldn't really play those bc you would have a weak kicker....and assume that if your opponent is holding a K, they will prob call....

I find mysellf getting into trouble when I call with hands like A9-2. But good luck to you!

OK JL, I believe you should work on manners before poker. I'm not sure if you mean playing $1 tables at a BR of 20 is dumb or a BR of $80, but either way with a low BR such as either of these you can either play .04 rooms forever which I sucks at or you can move up and take a chance at the rooms I can actually play in. BTW, my BR is now $150.00. Even though your informative post was way off the topic I will still give you a response.

As for the people that do stay on the topic and don't just criticize, I understand about the weak kicker but then again is this going to be a major problem at these stakes? If someone does have an A,K won't they be riding it harder than someone with A,7? I just see a lot of people riding an A regardless of the kicker and pulling some really good 2 pair.

I don't currently bet them as I am trying to build my BR but was just curious for later games.

Congrats on your current bankroll. Even still, at $150 you are not rolled to play the stakes you are playing. Enjoy this rush while it lasts, because sooner or later a cruel mistress named Variance (has a ring to it, no?) will rear her ugly head and leave you penniless.

At this point, you are not really playing poker, it more resembles bingo than anything else. I'm not saying it cannot be done, I'm sure plenty of people have deposited $20, taken to the .50/100 table, ran it up $500 and started their rolls that way. It even has a certain appeal to it than constantly grinding the micros.

If you do happen to build a roll and stay at current stakes, then bravo. But if you attempt to move up in stakes after you amass some cash you will be crushed. That was my whole point.

Pros preach Bank Roll Management more than anything, because playing over you limits is just plain dumb. Sooner or later you will end up in a big pot and someone will suck out on you. This is a fact.

But hey, what do the pros know? When's the last time they won a WSOP Main Event right?

Well I understand what you are saying, but I'm not a beginner at playing poker nor am I scared to fold! I only take 10 bucks at a time to the table and if I lose the 10 then I am done for the day. BRM is very important but in my opinion playing the proper stakes is not even close to as important as knowing when you are having an off day and changing the game. When I am having a bad day I switch to 5 card draw or go play a freeroll or a couple of sitngoes. I never reup and sit to continue loasing my money. When I get 2x what I sat down with I switch tables and start again with the $10. So there is BRM to my method, it just doesn't involve playing with the fish on the boring little tables! Different levels does mean different opposition and different way people play. It is very important for everybody to make sure at all times that they have their BR in control. It is sometimes very wise to fold a pair of aces although it does seem like a good hand if that all in means half of your current BR. I see a lot of people doing this and it is not healthy because it does have an effect on you. When you lose half of your BR in one fell swoop you might end up doing some pretty bad decisions that can lead to you being taken out. I do think that the maximum buy in at a table should be a maximum of 20% of your entire BR but that is just me. Different people have different ideas about managing their own BR.
