When I got into online poker, I took the extremely passive route. That is also an extremely slow route as I think I developed too much patience.
There is some mix between patience and aggression, and even realizing that took me several truckloads of hands. Much of my patience was fear, even tho I was playing play money games, I wanted to do it responsibly, knowing that someday I would either win freerolls or deposit. So I would hesitate with raises, and re raises, and look passive. My advice is to do a lot of play money games being aggressive, and overcoming your fears (assuming you have some fear of ???). Eventually any bet you make will cause no fear, it will become the right thing to do. This doesn't necessarily suggest you should try to bowl the table over, but it does suggest that you try hard to recognize your own behavior on the felt. Ask yourself a few questions, like; What is my opponent thinking I am saying when I bet, raise or re-raise? What is my opponent thinking at all? Do I really want to go broke with THIS hand? If I raise, how much should I raise? Keep in mind that at the low level play money tables you won't find satisfactory answers to those questions, but if you perservere, and can play in the bigger 10K play money games, you will find poker as it is sometimes played in bigger real money games, like maybe the 10-25 buck games. |

While poker strategy is great, I would emphasize playing a lot. No better way to learn than practicing!
