Post Flop Play for Advanced Beginner Month-long browser, first time poster. Ive been playing on Stars for about five months and still easily consider myself a beginner. I will credit myself and say that for all I know about poker, I know there is a whole lot more I dont know. I play fairly tight preflop, probably around 15/5, and wonder why anyone else would play andthing other than premium hands. I have a good understand about preflop, but where I need to go next is postflop. Are there any articles or books or even forum threads that I havent seen that could help me with my postflop play? I play .10/.25 usually and know that the competition isnt the greatest yet, but I would really like to be able to out play people rather than only using premium hands. Thanks

You can probably find some threads that will help you if you do a search. There is also a monthly chat thread for members who play micro stakes. Check out the Learning Poker forum - I am going to move this thread there.

re: Post Flop Play for Advanced Beginner poker Ill try to loosen up a little more, at least try to be more aggressive with more hands. My problem is that I just naturally assume that unless I know I have the best hand, I feel like im losing. I just think that everyone is as tight as I am and wouldn't bet without knowing they were going to win. Any suggestions???

If you are playing at the micro levels, you can be guaranteed that people are playing way more hands then you are. Bring your aggression preflop up a good bit more. The old saying if it's worth a call, it's worth a raise has a lot of merit down at the lower levels. If you haven't already, go read through the articles section, the golden archives, the articles blog, and in the HA section there is a must read sticky that has alot of good info in it. After that start posting up some of your hands you have some questions with in the HA section. Even though I don't use that as much as I should, it is a very valuable resource.

Are there any articles or books ..... that I havent seen I don't know.... I don't know what ones you've seen. There are TONS though... many good books and just TONS of stuff online. I've probably got over a 500pages (prob alot more than that) stored on my puter of great stuff and have it all grouped into different folders. That along with training vids., HH reviews, tournament HH critiquing written or in video format, etc. etc. etc. TONS of stuff! Maybe you could try posting some HH in the forums and see what others would suggest and 'why'.. and to read through countless others as well. Lots of knowledge to be gained.

Condensed play on the flop: You can only do 3 things: call, bet, and raise. When it's your turn, think of the worst option (above 3) and eliminate it. Of the remaining two, ask which one "should" I choose? If you really don't know then choose the more aggressive option. Try not to call. If you can't fold then try and raise. If you can't raise then try and fold. Now, go win a million dollars...
