pokerstars $2 free my apologies if this has been a topic. i haven't had an account at pokerstars for very long but realized in one of the random logins there they'd given me $2. this is a site, *eventually*, i planned on making a deposit. anyway, excitedly, i found some 1.15 double or nothin sng's. and won 2 out of 3, for a sweet 55 cents, woo hoo! i learned those double or nothing's aren't very fun though. they're waiting games, you need to double up what you have at least once and you're generally fine. and i learned AK may not be that great a hand to play in these things in the one i lost. lots of ppl talking a lot of trash for playing in an amateur type game too. left a bad taste in my mouth but i can ignore that. i noticed they had 10 cent tourneys with i think 360 people, and penny tourneys with 980? ppl but not much over 20 ppl get payed and its a hyper-turbo, so that's a crapshoot to me. every time i log into pokerstars and look for a convenient freeroll, in the past anyway, i could never find one, or find one at a time i could play. so my question is...is it worth trying to grind out this little bit of money in these double or nothing's until i've either made enough to have an all right bank there where i can actually play some regular games? is there anything i missed there that would be a better option with such tiny amount of money? (i'm not confident in ring games at all, haven't ever played many). or should i just do nothing at all with it? i generally treat every penny in an account like its sacred, especially when starting any bankroll. i know a lot of you here play there so any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you aren't comfortable with ring games then yes, my opinion is to try the double ups. They are your best chance at increasing your bankroll and I think you are right on the money with the 10 cent and penny tourneys, they are a crap shoot due to their hyper-turbo blinds. With the above said I must say something you probably are already aware of - you most likely will end up losing all of your money anyways. $2 is an extremely low bankroll to start with so maybe you should also concentrate on playing a lot of freerolls to try and build that up a bit before playing anymore games for cash. If you were comfortable with ring games I would be recommending you do the lowest limit with your bankroll as that is the safest possibility. Best of luck to you!

If you're going to play DoNs, play the turbos. 15% rake in a DoN is brutal. If you are interested in a basic strategy, read my post here: http://www.cardschat.com/showpost1226699-post19.html Alternatively, you can play the .10 and .25 money added tournaments that run every 4 hours (or something like that). These are probably the best in terms of EV. No matter what you play, you are going to have to play a tight strategy. At nano stakes, many people play loosely and the best counter strategy is to play tight. Therefore until you gain a decent roll, you are not going to be able to play "fun" poker.

thanks for the advice. and nice post wurlyq. i'll keep giving the options some thought. its not the end of the world or anything. i figure if i go bust in a couple of 1.15 don's then i'll still have a few shots at the crapshoot tourney's. i'm in no real rush cause i play other places. that 15% rake really is the biggest turnoff about them

I agree with the DON's youneed to play the turbos at that level they have less rake and you invest less time for the small amount you are getting. If you like to grind it out for hours after a few of these you can try the $1.10 tournies with gaurantees up to $3000.00 depending on the time of day you are able to play good luck I have been there took forever to get a small roll then you have to get over being afraid of losing it.

re: pokerstars $2 free i haven't tried playing any money there since i made this post. reckon i'm still thinking about it...while playing other places. still can't seem to lean one way or the other just yet. i've risked the $2 they gave me and made my little 55 cents at least so the money will not expire.
