Ever wondered how some of the coaches are doing. Received email ealrier with this link

how come some of the poker coaches are down in money? if they have big losses why would I want to learn from them?

Maybe, it might have to do with the Random Number Generator from the poker rooms... that has changed how the game is played online... they might be pros in live games... but now online their game style isn't working out... so why keep teaching that to people? so they can loose like them?

I dont want to pay a losing player to help me make money. Thats like the biggest oxy moron! lol

PTR not only doesn't record %100 of hands played, but didn't start recording hands up until like a year or two ago. In other words, what you see on PTR isn't the history of online poker. It's the history of the last couple years.

Another thing is that PTR doesn't always know all the screennames of a certain player. Not everyone plays all their volume on one screen name on one site.

That said, someone like baluga whale has both run bad for a good ~year (?) and subsequently taken a break from poker, but is a fantastic coach. One of the best, actually.

tl;dr: don't read into PTR too deep. That said, don't just get any no-name coach either; any good coach will happily supply a graph of his past 200k hands or past year or whatever from HEM/PT3 to potential students.

I've been watching Baluga Whale's videos on DC and the way he teaches structured thinking and breaks down a hands in an easy to understand way is amazing. I'm sure he will bounce back at the tables and regardless of his current winrate he would be my first choice as a coach if I could pick anyone and it wouldn't be close.

Yep, there's a huge differance between being a great player, and being a great coach. There's tons of great players who simply suck at coaching, and vice versa.
