Playing the so called conservative way

Well... I'm a so called fish.. played... and thought I only would play with good cards... I got maybe 3 times good cards... and that took over 1 hour

Does it happen sometimes that you only get shit cards? Time after time!?

Conservative is the way to go! if you only play winning hands you can't lose. As for not catching good cards, we've all been there. Just hang tough if you get 1 good hand every 16 hands at a 9 person table, you just paid for blinds. Eventually the cards will hit and you will be able to trap a fish

It was a nightmare... Never ever had so many bad cards, time after time! Unbelievable...

In large tourneys it is often the case where you have to wait for big hands. Sometimes a very long time. Very very long time even. But you know what? Money not lost is as good as money won.

I often think I prefer horrible cards to start a tourney. They are easy to fold.

Under all but the worst of days, eventually the cards in a tourney will even out.

In the beginning any money you win will most likely be lucky money. Many of us would suggest you play play money games and tourneys, and Freerolls till you get the mechanics of online play down.

There are a lot of articles here to help improve your games. I suggest reading them repeatedly, over a long period (year/s). Much of what you read the first time through will go in one ear, and out the other.

Learn patience. Of all the skills you need to learn, patience is the most important skill in poker.

Agree wholeheartedly with the patience advice. Tournaments are long-drawn out affairs, and at least for me, playing another tourney or two in the background is helpful.

A few weeks ago, I went a very, very, long time (170 hands) without getting anything higher than 10-10. Sometimes it's feast or famine.

I played for over 2 years on just play money sites, and read a lot of books, then started to do freerolls, then cash games. And I practiced multi-tabling which can keep you from getting too bored while you wait for good hands.

You will most likely lose money at first, so best to consider that educational costs.

When i tend to get on a bard card streak i find myself playing bad starting hands. I try to stay patient and wait for decent starting hands especially late in a tourny i play tighter and more conservative. It is frustrating not getting good cards but my advice to ya is be patient the cards will eventually come

I hope that I am correct in understanding that "playing the so-called conservative way" is in tournament situations. In my opinion this is a sound strategy and typically works early on in tournaments when the blinds and antes are relatively pretty low. Calling, betting, or raising within a narrow range of starting hands will get you so far, but as the blinds and antes increase, you'll have to be willing to deviate from this strategy and change up your game as the tournament wears on.

It is true that any two cards can win a hand, but learning to pick your spots with just "any two cards" is going to take time and observation.

And then there's the question of whether you're talking live (face-to-face) games, or the more SPECTACULAR onlive version.

one solution to that is to play tables with larger tables so you dont get hit by the blinds too often and play multiple table around 2-4 if you are a beginner. Also since you are playing multiple tables try play with lower blinds. I hope this will help you with your problem.

This sounds really exploitable to me. Sure maybe on a super micro table you will still be able to get some action even after folding round after round but with good players you won't.

Some days you will be totally cardead. I've played online tournaments before and have not had a starting hand for over 90mins. (I'm talking not even a pair, not even ducks, not suited connectors, not even a suited Ace, pure nothingness). I don't mind getting dealt junk later on in a tournament because it makes the decisions so much easier. Also, if I am totally cardead for long periods of time in early levels, I will open with some more marginal hands like 97o, 65s. If I get called by blinds I can still try to represent an 'A' or 'K' on the flop OR if I actually hit a big hand it will be concealed really well and I get the chance to take down a big pot. There's also a good change I'll at least get to take the blinds because I've been folding for so long.

Good cards will come to you. There will be days when you feel like you are hitting every single flop, where your pocket pairs are flopped a set very often, where when you get dealt a big hand like 'KK' someone else gets 'QQ', etc. It does balance out as mentioned above.

I would stick with the conservative method. I play that way and while I'm not winning much I'm not losing either (well actually just breaking even). I think it is better than my aggressive friend that doen occasionally win big, but has lost a lot over all in his poker career. Keep it up.

Well time to time i may use variance just playing a few different hands but in position... If you have a tight table image the odd bluff here and there does not hurt !!

I think you have got the drift. Good cards are dealt less ften than bad ones. Stick to being conservative.

At times it is boring waiting on your cards. Somedays you get them and somedays you don't...It is the nature of the game and one of the reasons it requires patience. Hang in there and wait for them.

U must also remember that freerolls are fre practice and when playing them,go in with a plan and.I made my FT bank roll from the freerolls and i thing quit a few CC members also started like that.

Patiance and play the freeroll properly like u are playing with your cash.This way u will learn the right way from the beginning.

There are three "edges" you can have playing poker - having the best cards, having the best position, and being the most skilled. While you're learning, focus on playing the best cards in the best position - in other words, if you're in early position (utg or in the blinds, for example) stick to premium hands like TT+, AK, maybe AQs, and in later position (btn, for example) you can play more hands (77+, KQ, QJ, JT, etc.) since you'll be able to see what others are doing before you.

Once you start getting the hang of things and read/study/absorb as dj11 suggests, you'll be able to develop a skill edge that will allow you to spend less time worrying about whether your hand is good enough to play or not, and more time thinking about how to exploit the other players at the table.
