AQ is the 2nd most overplayed hand in poker. AK is the most overplayed hand. AQ is ONLY AQ - when you go all-in pre-flop your hoping your a head of what hands? Well your ahead of all non- pair hands that are not AK and your a dog to any pair, a big dog to AK, a bigger dog to KK or AA. When the blinds get really high AQsuited is a totally different hand although still not a hand I get excited about putting all my chips in the middle. I will, but I'm not happy about it. Your behind most hands that you'll find the villain showing and only in front of non-pair hands AJ and below.

I knew after the WSOP that the new nut non-pair hand would end up being AQ. Those guys had so much pressure on them that all-in pre-flop with AQ seemed ok due to the fact that they played for 2 weeks then waited 4 months and then played for a lot of hours on the most pressure filled final table ever. AQ is just AQ

re: Playing A Q Suited poker like brentd said aq is aq, an overplayed hand that is tough for me to make an all in call preflop, but like all hands, its about position, blinds, stacks, and players- and what you may know about them, it worked for you there, but u got lucky- still...poker, what can i say

Been said above, really need to know blind / stack sizes and reads to be able to judge this one. One other thing to keep in mind though, being suited doesn't add anywhere near as much value to the hand as you might think. Especially in a preflop situation like this, the difference in value between AQs and AQo is negligible.

that is so wierd as i was hitting reply i got this hand AQs but it has been my experince that AQ is no good unless your opponent has it I have played countless hands where i have had AK and the opponent has AQ and he hits his Q every time pisses me off oh bye the way i just won 5K with my AQ but anyway in your case i think you played it well most of the time when short stacks go allin that shows they have a weak pair or A rag because if they were smart they would slow play the big hand to get more money from the bigger stacks nice play

re: Playing A Q Suited poker either way you probably would have gotten all your money in the middle. AQ is a dumb hand to play in a big cash game or even a big tourney because when it comes down to it you are going to be behind most of the time if the pot gets big, you can be sure no one is putting all there money in with aj or lower so might as well chuck it unless its a weird situation

Of course the blind level has a lot to do with it, but most times pushing with AQ might be slightly easier and better than calling with AQ. Stks dependant as well your read on this player. I still will say that AQ is the MOST overused hand in poker TODAY with AK a close 2nd. Of course if you just saw a flop all the money is going in the middle anyway, but pre-flop way over played. You would have got lucky if you did make your royal flush as you claim, but still I think it proves my point that u over played AQsuited and got lucky).

I completely agree with the previous posters. AQs looks very nice but is just like a black widdow, eaten before you know it. This is not only visible in the big tournaments on TV but I also experience it from time to time (and remember, I'm (you) are not the only one).... So think about it before you do a crazy act Don't fall in live with your holdings. Be rational and sometimes fold the best hand (in your opinion)
