1)Unlearn everything you learned from facebook and freerolls! 2)start reading and posting on this forum and watch every possible learning video. 3)Read books and practice the strategies on the micros or on the freerolls IF you can't deposit. 4)When you have a feel of the game, give more info of what particular game you like and post questions that have been bugging you and you will get all the help you need from CC folks...GL ! (On a side-note, placing 743rd on the FT freeroll doesn't mean much anyway but it's better than nothing...when you actually cash, it's something...when you can cash consistently on freerools, it's impossible )

Welcome to cardschat, I think you should start off trying out some of the private freerolls that exist on Full tilt, they offer a bit more paid places so it's much easier to cash than the 150$ freerolls. When you eventually cash, take a while to chose which game you think suits you the best, (Either Cash game or Sit and goes. You can play some MTTs but keep them to a minimum (none at all being the best option) while your bankroll is still small). Once you have chosen the game you would like to learn, then search the web for some information on that game : videos, forum threads, books, .... (There is stuff for any level, look for beginner material at first, then add more and more info as you get better). Never stop learning Some great info here ( : Golden archive I would also recommend you install Holdem manager (or pokertracker), and start having a look at the hands you have played (save your hand histories on all the sites you play at). Have a look at your stats too see if you are playing the way that is recommended by whatever information you have read. If you're really not sure about certain hands, you can post them in the hand analysis section of the forum, and get some feedback from more experienced players. If you have any other questions then don't hesitate and ask the forum. Hope this helped

re: Playing poker some really good advice from both authors here. full tilt and Pokerstars have free training aids to help in ur quest, but the advice from those authors are good. i like the idea that u did so well in that full tilt freeroll. if it were a normal tourn u woulda cashed. so just because u didnt make the cut in that particular freeroll, isnt a big deal because only less than 1% of the field cashes in those, so luck is a huge factor. u should always be trying to get deep ie at least the top 10% of the field in a tourn even in freerolls because it provides good practice like concretrating for hrs in a tourn and how to play various chip stacks. so i think beating nearly what 6800? ppl regardless whether a freeroll or not is something to be proud of. nice job. hope the forum helps and GL

Read a lot + play a lot + think constantly = profit. Don't mess around with freerolls for too long, if a game isn't intellectually challenging then you're not going to grow as a player. There also isn't as much of a penalty to losing a freeroll where a losing streak with actual money will force you to watch your bankroll heading in the wrong direction. Unpleasant stuff is good, you'll always learn fastest when things are going bad. As for what to read, your first stop should be the Golden Archives (in the general poker section), read everything there that is at all related to the game you're playing. Then read everything else anyway.

The best way to play holdem??? Ask 10 players and you may get 10 answers. And many of them may be right..... for that player. Good advice above, and I want to also stress do not take FB and FR poker as a realistic example of poker for money. Reasons already stated above. There are SO MANY ways to learn. Books, videos, articles, poker software, and so on. IMO at the beginning it is not so important which method you choose (maybe not software that costs money at first) as long as you start somewhere. You will learn as you go, and the way you need to go will become clearer as you continue. You should probably start with one game - FR, 6-max, SnG etc. - and get a book on that game, read articles, and most importantly constantly monitor your play. Make sure you have your hand history set to be saved on your HD. Post questions here as often as you like. Also as stated above the Golden archives are a great place to start. Good luck.
