Hey Chatters,
I lost with pocket AAs last nite in a $1,000 tourney. But, I am not crying that I got sucked out. Reason for losing is I played "too" passive and wanted to make it to the money. The caller made a bad call (Called a 7,000) raise with K6 os) in my oppinion, but got luck and hit to win. As I comtemplate the hand, I realize this was the time to get agressive and let the "chips fall where they may". Player to my right had 1,000 chips and went all in. I had pocket AAs and only called. There were two other players to my left. One folded and one called. (Player with the K6 os. The flop put K and two rags on the board. After the flop, I went all in with my remainding 7,000 chips. And,opponent to my left called. As we showed out hands, I had a pair of Aces and Opponent to my left had a pair of KKs. The original all in player had rags and no pair. A desperation all in. On 4th street along comes a 6 which gives player to my left KKs and 66s. Me with just the Aces, River, nothing and I lose. So, in analysing the play, it seems that had I went all in to drive out the other players, I would have won the pot and still been in the tourney. Any thought? Always trying to improve, mange Last edited by mange : 12th April 2009 at 3:15 PM. Reason: Double clicked and trying to remove one of the threads. |

Tough to take especially when the guy with K6 should not have been in the hand. You are right with AA and being aggressive. I would always make a big raise with AA and while I know I am going to lose some of them I am also know I will win more than I lose. It is however essential that you take most players out in the opening round and minimise the opposition.

re: Played too Passive poker
what was the blinds when this happened, where was he in relation on the BTN, and how was the table playing by this point? very seldom flat calling a raise with pocket Aces with other players behind you to act is the right move because you put yourself at risk to get outdrawn. which happened on the turn since the opponent with the K-6 got in the hand

I will usually reraise to isolate in this situation.. BUT sometimes if I feel the situation warrants it I will consider flatting (ie. like this scenario when a LAG-tard calls behind with crap like K-6o and then I'm able to stack'em when he hits TPWK). I'd say (like someone above) you played this hand optimally in this case, even getting K6o to make a huge mistake so it seems good as played to me.
You can't doubt your decision based on results. You got the money into the pot as a huge fav., what more could you want? |

Reason for losing is I played "too" passive and wanted to make it to the money.....a 2000 reraise had been better, but u played the hand well....the 6 on turn was bad luck.....
it seems that had I went all in to drive out the other players, I would have won the pot....he might have called or not...u will never know ![]() |

You just got unlucky against the K6.
You played it perfectly and I see no fault in trying to slowplay aces preflop for deception. You actually want the K6 offsuit to call you right? And thats what he did. He will lose in the long run obviously. So don't worry and goodluck! |

There is 1 of 3 things you can do here.
1. Fold (right you are folding AA lol) 2. Call so to get other players to call. 3. Push all-in to try and isolate the all-in. I dont see a problem with either play 2 or play 3. You have the best starting hand and want some action with it. You just dont want anyone to get lucky and unfortunately someone did. If you have shoved all-in depending on my chip stack I may have called your all-in anyways and you end up with the same result. Just remember while AA is the best starting hand it is not always the best hand at the finish. The Muppetteer |

Yeah, I might have tripled the first players all in before the flop... probably woulda made everyone else fold though. Can't see anything wrong with how you played it, sometimes bad plays pay off (not yours, the K6 guy). You made good decisions and thats really what its about.

edit: unless of course that person just made a full boat when the board paired... then of course, you're screwed ![]() |

As I was typing this I just got AA That's crazy ..... ummmm Although I didn't play it the way I would tell others too. I checked it to two aggressive players. Hit an A on the Flop Full house by the turn Check >> Called down to the river which put me ALL in and took max profit from both from the aggressive players. Everything is Situational General Rule: I would say bet it Preflop or get your A's Cracked again and again. There are always exceptions to the rules ...... ![]() |

If you decide too play a hand, always raise too eliminate as many other players as you can before the flop.
Always raise the same amount no matter what cards you have so you don't get read by someone paying attention. Too eliminate other players the raise you make must be substantial, if the table standard raise is 3 times the big blind make your bet 4 or 5 times the big blind every time. this will make it uncomfortable to call by the other players. If you have a hand that you are willing too go all in with no matter what cards or betting come on the turn unload on em, shoot first, rock there world, go all in PRE-FLOP. MAKE THEM BEAT YOU, DON'T LET THEM! |
