What is the lowest pair (pocket and board) you would feel comfortable playing beond the flop?

Unfortunately this question is a bit too broad to answer with anything other than "depending on the exact situation I could a) feel comfortable playing any pocket pair beyond the flop or b) fold AA". If you could provide more specifics or even better would be a hand history in the analysis section, you'd get better answers.

If you are holding 55 and the flop comes 234, you've got a lot of play in them 5's.
Or even 22 to an A34, or 345 flop, tho there is less play there, the possibilities are still large. But, Like Jack said, it is situationally dependent. The one thing you should probably not do is to overvalue an unimproved pair. In either of the above cases, even if you hit your set on the river, it is not necessarily a good thing. |

You can't possibly play a profitable game in the long term with such a vague, simply statement. There are plenty of times where you should be betting with just your pair. And there many other times where you need to be able to let a pair go if it didn't set. But to say you won't bet your AA on Q84 rainbow flop because you didn't make a set would be horrible in pretty much any case.If you're truly playing simply by the above statement, then we've identified a huge hole in your game that we can begin working to close. I'd suggest posting some hand histories of these situations in hand analysis to get input on the variations. |
