outdrawn all the time ,natures way of saying you suck

every time i get AK ,KK AQ either suited or not ,when im heads up with Ak dominating an A8 or if im just dominating another hand when we share a hi card eg KQ vs K9 or AQ vs A5 i seem to get outdrawn ,i end up looking back at the way i played and doubting my play ,e.g i end up all in against one player preflop and im ahead then BANG in drops the villains card .

how do you cope with the consistent unfairness of poker ,it makes me doubt that skillfull players exist and that some people are proffessionally lucky. i find it difficult to register to another sit n go after the 3rd time of being eliminated from the game cause a fish has called my ak with a2 and flopped a 2!! .dont seem to make any difference how i play .its disheartening and becoming increasingly predictable ,to the point that i darent raise with premium or good cards in case i have to show them down ,the only hands i seem to win are when i luckily and rarely flop a made hand . is this natures way of saying i suck or that the tournament style of play is not for me and that maybe i should be a cash player.or is it just natural variance

I hate it when this happens. I was just in a couple of freerolls. In one of them I went all in pre-flop with A-K and was called with an A-8 of spades and they caught a flush on the river. It seems that bad beats and suckouts happen much more than not. It doesn't mean that you suck though it just means you get very unlucky sometimes and your opponents are incredible lucky. Just keep playing tournaments and try to up your game and you will get better. Luck is something you cannot control but streaks of luck don't last forever. So hopefully your luck changes.

If you played it right, then you played it right. Be happy with your play and don't beat yourself up because someone got lucky. if you know you made the right play then there is nothing you can do about it, except learn from it (if you didn't play it right) or just forget about it and realize no matter how skilled you are there is still luck involved. This could almost be moved as a badbeat thread, but its also about the psychology of a poker player and how to deal with beats.

The situation you're talking about is a 70/30, you are going to lose 30% of the time if you are allin preflop HU. If you see a flop with a hand like this, it can be easy to forget all the times you c-bet and they fold. Perhaps most of the times you go to showdown are when they hit and you're paying off too much postflop.

You have to continue to make the right moves believing that you will come out ahead in the long run if you do. Also, realize that if you are involved in two 70/30 hands in a tournament, you're only 50/50 to win both. The more allins you face, the better you have to run, even if you get in as a favorite every time.

Like Ivail siad first of all keep playing. Breaks in playing do wonders but to stop all together is to fail. Try changing up your style of betting. Check more hands down if your losing every AK KK hand. Patience is a big virtue in the poker world.
I have heard enough people say to me when I was first starting out, to make a goal of making the first break. After doing this, I started to see better results. After the first break their are a lot less donks. You will want to win a couple hands but I would keep from making those all in calls. Donks are donks and that's the simple reason there is a name for them.
The other thing I have learned is that I seem to win more by playing only a few percentage of hands. You can't beat yourself up over J2os and folding to a flop of J22. It's useless.
Some other advice if you're making it past the first break. Watch some tournaments that have 20 to 30 people left and down to the final table online. Watch their style and see what their betting on. What hands are winning and how much donk play you see there.
I have placed first in over 20 tournaments ranging from 10 to 400 people.
In other tournaments of 4000 to 8000 people I have finished in the top 20 over ten times and the top ten 7 times with my best a 5th place out of 5000.
In all of these I can't stress how much patience is what it took for me.

In tournaments you will lose because of variance more often than in cash games. Like HousesHoly said, sitting tight and playing only premium hands before the break can help sift the donks out of the field. Especially if there is a rebuy period, and it's a low-buyin tourney.

Do you play cash tables at all? I find the donks get punished harder playing cash than in tourneys, and if they do get lucky you can just reload and stack them in exactly the same scenario 70% of the time

thanks very much for the excellent words ,(this really is the best poker forum in exsistence) these are exactly the posts that make me not doubt my plays so much ,i probably am a little too eager to get my money in the pot with a premium hand ,this is something i will work on .i wrote the thread after a succsession of sit n go losses (i dont usually do that bad in them ).I like the idea of cash games but i rarely play them ,but as said in previous post if i get beaten in a 50/50 situation that i go into as favorite because im called by a donk who plays marginal hands ,then i can reload and put him in the same situation again only win this time !
i see the advanced guys on here willing to teach and would love to get involved i saw a thread about 50 NL teaching ( what is a 50NL game)

Jokes aside, shit happens even in poker. Just yesterday I was playing a live tournament, came to last 2, and called an all-in move holding KK. The other guy had Q8s, flopped 2 pairs and took 1st place But I know there were some other cases earlier that night when my moves ended right, and so it is called poker probabilities.
The thing that really matters for me when going or calling all-in is if I am favorite pre-flop (or at shoving / calling time). If I'm ahead, there is not much more I could ask for, I know I made a correct move. If not, then it's my fault and stupidity must be punished.
