Omaha learning Hi! I am a beginner in omaha, and I have just a little bankroll. I tried to get some advices from internet reading omahaplanet, or membering at omahapokerpros.com, but I am not sure which strategy can be adjusted for 0.01/0.02 - 0.05/0.10 games. If you have a good book (I dont think for this stake ) or a site for total micros, where you started or you think its good, I would be happy to have a look at it. Thank You for every answer!

Advice: Don't play Omaha with a small BR. If you really want to play Omaha, do so in a SnG setting. I've played ring PLO before and it is just brutal. In theory, it should be a great place to make some profit; bad players, overplaying okay PLO hands like high PP's with trash behind them but it doesn't seem to work out that way. (at least for me) I can't tell you how many times I've been ahead with a made hand or a huge draw and end up losing my buyin by the OP sucking out or making a shaky call. Having said that, if you insist on playing ring PLO, at least do it at a 9 man table and not 6 man. The 9 man will at least allow you to be more selective with your starting hands. Unfortunately, I don't know of any really good books or Omaha specific sites for you to look at

Thank you guys, it really helped, because I would have thought that cash is better with a little bankroll... I will try my luck at the sit'n'go tables. But I am still wondering how to get some play instructions, because everybody says that it's so easy to beat and there are so many bad players at small stakes... Maybe it's because of the lack of good teaching sites?

re: Omaha learning poker About the books i was told that Tri nguyen's and Harrington's books are considered good , but one of the best is Slotboom's one, however the first two are better for beginners than the third. However until 0.10/0.25 or above , you ll have almost no need of theory cause people play sooo bad that most of the thinking is just wasted celebral activity

What specific instruction are you looking for? I mean, the basics as far as I know are: 1. Remember pot odds when you're betting or deciding when to call 2. Without the nuts, don't go crazy with betting 3. If there are 3 of one suit on the board and you don't have a flush...get rid of it unless you have a boat or better 4. Get your most zen like music or whatever because its going to be a frustrating ride

At while back, I started to learn PLO. What a crazy game. For example, hold'em has a possible 1,326 starting hand combinations. PLO has 270,725...just a little different huh Anyway, I read a few books on it. I can certainly recommend Pot-Limit Ohama Poker by Jeff Hwang. It's hands down the best beginner book I've read. I'm probably going to read it a couple more times.

As far as books go I would say look into the David Hwang book. The first one not the advanced one. Adjustments will be needed for the low levels and he doesn't talk about Tourney play at all but he is considered to be one of if not the best writer on PLO. How small is your BR. You may want to consider taking my 100 game challenge at PS. They have .10 cent games and trust me they are not easy to beat but have a look through my thread and see what my results were. I dont have a lot of instruction in that thread that talks about how to win them but have a look and let me know what you think. http://www.cardschat.com/f46/plo-100...llenge-179877/ (http://www.cardschat.com/f46/plo-100-game-challenge-179877/)

There is a lot of chasing but the golden rule is that if you are going to chase at least make it for the nuts. When I chase in PLO I am making sure I have at least two ways to win the hand and in most cases I want them to be the nuts. If you are HU you might be able to get away with chasing and not having the nuts but this is not suggested. All cards have some element of luck and true there are more ways to win in O than there is in HE but you dont have to nor should you rely on luck if you are playing the right hands from the right position you should see improvment. Variance is still a B though Like just now I was playing in an MTT and flopped a nut straight with the nut flush draw. Lead bettor came out with min bet so I re raised and got two callers. Next card pairs the board. Get a check form the lead bettor so I am pretty sure he has hit the Boat. I check behind and the next guy raises pot. My mistake I should have been out but I also didn't have enough chips behind to be able to fold this one. As you probably guessed he had hit the boat. Two outers and one outers in Omaha are common ground. I dont even call them bad beatrs anymore.

Thanks for good wishes! kmixer, I checked out your challenge and I find it pretty cool! It's nice to read a story like that and what you thought during the 'season'. It seems to be important to have a good mental stamina in order to play PLO tournaments . I was glad to read your results and that you were happy to do it through. My experiences were till now, that it is really hard to alter from playing just the nuts. The players tended to call every bet, so bluffing or semi bluffing did not work well. The volatility is quite high and despite, I find it a little more boring then other types... Of course it can be because I had just begun a few weeks ago, but maybe with two-four tables (when the EV and the bankroll are enough to allow that) it will be more fun ...

| re: Omaha learning poker I am glad you enjoyed it. The risk for the total challenge is only 10$ so i felt that was not a lot to lose. My results were good and I am considering doing it again. I still have yet to place in 1st place so that is a goal I still hope to achieve. GL if you decide to go for it. Post the results and I will gladly follow along. Quote:
