Omaha Hi lo SNG

Kinda unlucky last game I did.

Sng 1500 chips, not turbo, so got plenty of time.

Well 10 people starting, I wait mostly very good hands to spend my few chips at start, but all those hands, at flop sucks.


I wait Ace 2 +low and 1 high , or even try ACE 2 + 2 high to see at least the flop. Used also ACE 3-4 + High.

Then Ace + suited for see if I get 2 lucky colors on flop.

So entered in 10-15 hands and nothing, always the flop scares me, like 2 high or 3 high when I aim at low, and totally different colors when ive some suited.

Ended up that I had to go all in with few chips.

ITs normal having a curse like this ? or im doing all wrong

Try being aggressive in position - are you limping alot?

When the flop looks terrible and you're HU in position, are you taking shots at the flop or immediately giving up?

In cash games, I think being an ultra-nit can be an ok strategy - but in SnG's, I don't believe that to be the case.

I usually call before flop, so everyone enter and pot is bigger ( tactic I readed on this forum ) , then if flop is good or look promising I raise.

I try to call after flop if ive medium / good, and it doesnt cost me too much compared to whats on the plate.

I play on ps and ftp mostly. 9 / 10 man tourneys

It sounds like you are not betting preflop with your good hands, which lets people with worse hands see a cheap flop and outflop you. You're just spinning a roulette wheel. You should try and raise preflop with your good hands and fold your bad hands. It'll save you a lot of chips.

ok like in texas, that how I thought at start also.

But in this forum, a lot of topics, they said to not raise preflop with good hands cause of those reasons :


- If you have a good low hand, u want people to join, so pot get bigger and also the share. ---> ok cause then if flop its friend you raise and get benefit of bigger pot with less people that stay.

- You basically play for scoop, but sometimes u aim more on the low, and sometimes more on the high. Basically if you raise, then you can maybe enter in situation HIGH hand and you screwed if u had low.

1 ) Which good hands : 3 low + 1 High ? or by use Hutchison Points just any hand +20 points I can consider it good to raise ?

2 ) Define the Raise, 3x 4x ? or just 2x ?

Based on the position, if ive good hand I raise or I just limp in ?

I try to stay away from hi and low due to that the sit and go take longer then normal.

Early stages of PLO8 you are better off limping into pots with Premium holdings only. You are not going to raise anyone out of a hand while the blinds are low in Pot limit. Also the value of hands are alot closer in PLO8 than in Holdem so with any hand you will never be that much of a dog preflop. So why call off more than 10% of your stack by raising ? You wont know where you stand until the flop comes down.

Middle stages of the sng @6 players left i will open up more in the cutoff and button still limping marginal hands but raising with premium hands not because i think im miles ahead, but at this stage of the sng i want to build a pot preflop with a premium hand hoping to hit it hard and scoop the pot with someone chasing a 2nd nut draw or a low OR i want to protect a hand that does not play well multiway such as AAxx OR i want to still the blinds.

late stages - bubble if i open a pot im raising, as i want to give the other players an opportunity to fold. if i can limp in from the button i will be playing any decent holding with my position.

You will get get deeper in these SNG simply by not playing any hands in the first 3 rounds. Other than A2 + A3 suited with either 2 high or 2 wheel cards.

Stay away from middle value cards - 9's are the worst card to have in PLO8 if you have a hand with middle cards muck it, i even muck A2 if i have 2 unconnected middle cards with it. Why play with 2 cards when you can play with 4

If your using the hutchinson points system i would up your calling and raising standard to 28pts as a guide. But remember some premium PLO8 hands score low in hutchinson points so dont just rely on that. With experience you will learn to know which hands are good to play in what situation.
