Omaha H/L or Omaha?

In an effort to expand my horizons, I started playing more micro Omaha SnGs and MTTs. I have a general knowledge from years of home game play, but I've done very little research so far. I've done pretty well and have maintained a positive ROI over the course of maybe 30 tourneys or so. I don't have the stats, but it seems that I'm much more comfortable playing Omaha H/L and as a result, I have better finishes. I play tight and picking out the starting hands just seems to come to me more easily. Maybe with such a small sample it's just the way the cards fell. Do you find Omaha H/L and easier game to win than Omaha?

Both have their own range of good starting hands that are quite different. Maybe you do well because of the chopped pot. I haven't played a lot of these type games. I definitely do not buy into them at this point. Maybe your competition is not playing starting hands that have a good shot at high and low and you are.

Hi/Lo is my favorite game... it is the one game that keeps my acct afloat... I'm absolutely positive it is the split pot factor that is so attractive to me. I do well with it.... I wish we had more omaha and mixed game freerolls.... now that would be fun.

If I were you, I would definitely play regular omaha. I have tried playing omaha H/L before, but I have noticed that it is extremely frustrating when you make a very strong hand, only to have it split with the low hand. I guess the main reason I like to play regular omaha is because it is very similar to no-limit holdem, which was the game I grew up playing.

i think loose players like H/L better because they can play alot of hands and still win

I'm afraid I couldn't disagree more. To be succesful, starting hand selection is every bit as critical as in any other game. Knowing when to bow out is also crucial, with so many variables appearing on every street. In general, if you don't have the nuts, high or lo, you will very seldom get far.

I prefer straight Omaha to the hi/lo, nothing frustrates me more than having a chopped pot. Also when in the hi/lo if someone has the low hand locked up they usually raise you forcing you to catch your card for the chopped pot if your on a draw.

I believe that the looser players prefer H/L but completely agree with dave about hand selection. That being said, I believe a good player has a better chance of making money in H/L.

I'm one of those "loose" players, so I prefer Hi/Lo. Also bc yeah, I enjoy forcing people to bet with the low hand. It frustrates people, and I like being a nuisance
