Has anyone got any hints or startegy for playing Omaha Pot limit.

What sort of bankoll do you need

start with 100 buyins for the level you are playing and you should be OK.

The best way to learn PLO is by playing. I started out by playing a daily freeroll on Power Poker. Really enjoyable game once you get the hang of it a bit. I don't play much of it these days. Try to play hands with 4 cards working together most of the time. (e.g. TJQK double suited) Hands like AJ87 are terrible, stay away from those.

The play is really bad on PokerStars so try out some of the micro games. They have PLO or PLO8 at 35 past the hour (mostly $3.30 or $4.40 buyin I think) most of the time during the day and some at 5 past the hour. Be sure to check the game type before you join because there are some NL ones thrown in there and that's just bingo.

Not sure if this advice is much good but hope at least some of it helps.

I play only micro limit PLO cash games now, some basic strategies:
Play all 4 cards working together
2 pair is crap, a set is only good if none of the board cards are working toghether and the board hasn't paired.
Ck or call with flushes below K high and the board hasn't paired
Never play the idiot end of the straight unless everyone is checking all around.
Be careful of pulling the FH with low set and middle pair, like 4's over 7's when board pairs 4's. Often something like Pocket 9"s making a set will dominate you.
Don't raise the pot pre-flop in position unless you have a very good starting hand, then raise at least 4x BB to limit calls.
If flop is dead or very marginal fold to raises otherwise check.
Don't slow play unless you are WAY ahead and want to keep as many in pot as possible, I'm talking K's over J's FH hands with pocket kings. Nut or 2nd nut flush on flop (happens more times than you'd think) raise pot don't slow play.
About the only time you can bluff on showdown is the A bluff with flush, and then you have to bet big. Otherwise bluffs get called far to often with straights or Q high flush.

Like all poker everything is relative to your villians and being able to read them.

I have been playing PLO ring more than NL ring lately (and I play the ultra micros) but I have been able to build some good stacks, I just seem to stay in the game a few hands longer than I should and end up giving it back

Pairs and 2 pair usually no good. Flushes Straights and Boats seem to be the way to here. Ive read dont play any hands with a hanging off card AJQ4 (like the 4 should make this a fold) but at the micros , I sorta ignore the hanging card thing DOuble Suited connectors or even gapped can make some great disquised hands

Also heard if youre holding trips in your hand, FOLD THAT HAND NOW

It seems youll see your biggest pf pots when someone has AAXX and usually that AAXX wont hold up but its usually the biggest pf raises youll see and its anything AA72

At the micros I dont know if this is as big a problem as it is higher up but I tend to play too many hands as most of the time something looks to have potential and I usually dont see the common raises like you do pf in NL

If youre playing HI lo watch out, if you think youre the only one going for the low, I have lost too many hands by getting cute raising to try to force out others with my low thinking they are only playing high but they are playing lower than you but I cant even discuss Hi lo as way too much more to think about

BUt like I said take my strategy tips with a grain of salt as only been playing PLO about 2 months and if I have said something just way off the charts here, please correct me too as Im learning this game too

1st Hwang's "Pot Limit Omaha" is a great book, I'd like to know if anyone else knows good books on Omaha.

getting 3 of a kind in your hand is awful (I've gotten 4 Q's before and wanted to cry). I can't speak to higher limits but people at micro will play AAxxo, even after the turn when the board draws dead for them.

If you build up your stack to say 200BB's then you can play QJTx hands if the pot hasn't been raised pre-flop. This becomes a significant tool playing the less than optimal hands when you are ahead

I can't emphasize enough paired boards are straight and flush killers. Dump your hand unless your villans are weak. Maybe make a small 2xBB bet, they will fold if they are drawing air or they will Call/Raise if they have the goods. Check all the way through, fold to any raise.

Yes Im in too, I need to read some good strategy of the game as Im picking up more and more I go. I dunno, I just keep hearing the money is now in Omaha and since I aint killing hold em, I might as well try to omaha. I got a brief understanding of the game, SO GET THAT THREAD GOING LOL

@potluck I was holding AAA4 the other day and I had to sit and convince myself to fold and I finally did, not happily, but the flop would of destroyed me so it was the right move, though it didnt seem like it

One thing I do find really difficult, I havent played live for money omaha but I play Omaha at my live league and I have trouble peaking at my cards and remember it, Hard enough to remember the 2 in my hand and now its 4 LOL

I'm posting in cash games, my first is on FH hands. It's not really very informative but the Fh's come more often than in HE and I've been thinking about them lately. I'll be talking about the straight draws next which is the most important part of Omaha.

It depends on if you are playing limit or potlimit, but yeah, about 50-100 bb buy in sounds about right. It keeps you from feeling committed and worried about your stack. GL

If your just starting to play omaha you should try to play Full ring if available. There is a lot more variance and tougher decisions you face in 6max then in full ring. In full ring you can play less hands and hands that are more likely to give you the nuts. Just stick to basic counting outs and calculating pot odds. you will be able to hand read a lot better in position when playing omaha and steal pots when opponents miss their draws. when calculating outs and pot odds keep in mind that some of your outs will complete higher straight possibilities. There is still a greater then a %30 chance of board pairing on turn/river completing full house possibilities.Don't overplay a bottom set, better to fold in most cases unless you can keep the pot small. I personally don't play much omaha but, a lot of omaha8. I like the dynamics of O8 and think it is a lot easier to make money only if you have rake back, because you do split a lot of pots.

And expensive.

I only play limit. And I try to keep it to limit Omaha8.

Do not chase. If you don't hit the flop, somebody did.

raise, raise, raise all the time. You get so deep post flop that you loose too much on unmade hands. I hate limit games the most at micro, just stupid plays that donk you with middle pair off straight combined with flush draws. A's mean crap in Hold'em cause you can't put them in enough to limit field and have 4 callers, one will make a set or straight. I hate limit more than donks.

Don't play this game with a small stack. Rebuy to a full stack after the hand ends. Don't limp in every hand. Don't play out of position without a very strong holding. Your best hands are nut builders, pairs are no good without help from the board. Be aware of the many straight opportunities and especially with 13 or more straight outs, especially nut outs. As said before, you make most of your money on a few great hands, so you want to draw to nut and second nut hands, although you can get hammered in this game on the river when a third suited card falls or the board pairs.
