$$$ October Micro SNG Thread $$$

Well thought I would start october up with a cap of last month.thank you guys for showing me how to use paint. Have started playing tighter and staying in my roll playing 2 dolla 6max turbos on tilt and I think I am getting more consistent. I know it is a small sample.

i just noticed FTP now has a $1.20 SNG. it appears they dropped the rake by 5 cents. i also notice a $3.50 + .30 SNG turbo. I'm not sure i ever saw these before are these new. i may just try these out this month as I'm right now I'm in between being rolled for $2.25s and $5.25s.

well i didnt get all my goals done last month. i got close to 500 SNGs but went on a massive cooler toward the end of the month. i didnt take as many notes as i'd of like but am getting better at taking them. i did find and hopefully plugged a few leaks. i did do lots of ICM study but not the 1hr a day i'd planned to. i also didnt review as many games as i hoped to. well this is a new month.

goals
1. get a BR system together for the SNGs.
2. review all my sessions in SNGWIZ
3. learn more ICM.
4. play more 18,27,45 player SNGs this month.
5. hope to be rolled for all $5.25 SNGs
6. try to post 3-7 hands a week

i've been fooling around with SNGEGT and learned lots. i have been working on a chart of unexploitable shoves. and plan working more on it this month and hope to have a good amount of it done. i was hoping to move up to the $3.50+30 SNGs but noticed these were just the super turbos. i got a free week of cardrunners and just bought a 3 month booster. so i'll be watching as much on SNGs as possible this month.

I read somewhere on the forum that you have to be a registered member of stox for the videos to work, even if you download them. I havent done it myself but it might pay to check first...

Im going through the Last Man Standing series at deuces cracked over the weekend as all their videos are free!!

Its funny, I've been taking to playing one $2.16 10-seat bounty tournament on Carbon to wind down from homework before I go to bed.

I'm not keeping that close of track, but I'm up $30 since the start of August. I doubt I've played more than 25 of them in a month.

I had my first sng coaching session last night. I feel very fortunate to have found this guy at Stox. I was nervous about the session but within 5 minutes I was totally comfortable with him.

He was well-prepared for the session and had a couple of ideas on how we could start and allowed me some input. He had given me some problem scenarios and we went over a few of those which I had answered all wrong lol.

Then he sweated me while I played 4 $6.50 turbos - 2 at a time. It was the perfect pace because it allowed us plenty of time for discussion. We immediately identified some leaks in my game.

Shocking as it may be to those who know me - I actually need to tighten up my game a bit in the early stages lol. And here everyone thinks I am a nit hehe.

I was playing way too many hands on the button - so I will work on tightening up my range there. And I was not using the sb position properly - especially when my stack starts to get short.

After the games we installed SitNGo Wizard - omg I love that! I am going to play around with it some today. He showed me a little bit in there and I will get him to help me out some more after I have tried to use it on my own some.

We talked about my HUD and what I need there - which is very little really.

All of this was 2 hours. Incredibly valuable investment.

My homework is to play $6.50 turbos, use the wizard and watch some videos. Next session we are going to make me some charts and I will probably sweat him in either that session or the one after that. Then he can sweat me again and we can go from there.

The session was very motivating. I woke at 5:30 am ready to get my day started so I could play some sng's lol.

So yea - get used to me in this thread. I think I have found my game.

I will still play MTT's because I love them. But honestly I think I can be more successful at sng's so will make them my main game and MTT's will be secondary.

Let's see how October goes. And November - October is my learning month so I won't really use it to gauge my success. November will hopefully tell me if this is what I want to do long term.

Sounds like you have everything figured out! I am curious about this SitnGo Wizard, care to elaborate on what this is exactly? And good luck on your SitnGo adventures, I too will be sticking to them this month.

My 1 goal is simply to play and track the results of at least 5 SNG's a day. I normally play this many anyways but I need to start tracking my results more importantly.

SitNGo Wizard probably does far more than I can tell you - but just the small amount of time I spent in it last night here is what I know so far.

It collects your hand histories and analyzes them for you. It will tell you which hands you played wrong and what you should have done instead. It gives you the ranges for that play as well.

For example if you folded and should have shoved it will tell you that and show you the hands you would shove with.

I had very few hands that I played incorrectly and most of them were marginal so it was okay.

I can hardly wait to get back in there today after I play some more sng's.

You can download it for free for 30 days so you have nothing to lose by trying it. And after that it only costs $45.

You can not have it open while playing though - so make sure it is closed and that you remember to close your poker sites before you launch it.

I think the sites are fine with it being used as a review of your hands - but not something you can use while you are playing as it would give you an unfair advantage over the other players.

google SNGWIZ and download it. its free for 30 days. it's bacially an advances ICM calculator. and ICM is the math of SNGs. There is also SNGEGT which is free and pretty cool to play around with. as far a trcking your results you get 5 free searches at sharkscope.com which can help you keep track of your progress.

Goal for Rocktober:

Play more Sit and Gos.
I started playing a few again on the 1st after months, maybe a year or so of not playing them frequently. Nailing down a number would be nice but unrealistic at this point imo. Hopefully with a decent Rocktober, *crosses* fingers, I can move up to the next buy-in sngs.

They were definitely $1.25 last month. Glad they've dropped the figure finally, but they've taken their sweet time

Since last month's goals worked out alright for me I'll reuse them:

Step 1: Play lots
Step 2: ?!?
Step 3: Profit

It took me til my 6th $6.50 turbo to cash - and then it was only 3rd place. I hope I cash in more than 1 out of 6 lol.

But I am starting to get the hang of them I think so maybe the next 6 will be better.

Just a little advice on SNG Wizard : don't trust what SNG Wiz tell you at first because their default calling and raising ranges are a bit messy.
They now ask for feedback on this (basically by user allowing the software to auto-feedback the hands they put to SNG Wizard support) but last time I used it (which should be around july I think) you still have to make adjustments to get a good result.

Instead go through each hand where you pushed/called a push or fold to a push preflop (yeah forgot to mention for those unfamiliar with SNG Wiz : this piece of software is just about push/fold preflop situations but that's basically what you like to do with ICM tools ).
Then for each hand adjust calling and pushing ranges for your opponents the way you think it should reflect reality.
Then you will have some SNG Wiz advice to trust for.

I'll probably try to play a mix of MTT, SNG and 6 max cash this month depending of the time i got to play each day.
Probably going to 10-20's $ MTT and SNG and 50NL but i'll take a look at this thread daily.
Take care all and good luck at the tables.

I believe I went into Friday with a ITM streak of 3 and have went 0/3 since. Mistakes and bad beats here or there are determining my outcomes. I seem to have great luck sitting into a table full of decent players compared to non-weekend madness. An hour, hour and a half in and there's one, maybe 2 people gone. I shouldn't be worried about a 3 straight loss especially since I probably should have been at least 1/3 itm but I'll wait for the weekend to end. I'm probably a little out of my league if thinking moving up in buy-ins equals better players, equals the last 3 sngs I just played in, equals no very easy money. I might just drop the sngs forever if I can't see profitability in higher buy-ins in the future. It feels like a missing something fairly important when playing these and probably should go take a look at a good book. I Have to work today anywhoo. GL all.

Well I have played 21 $3.40 SNGs over the last couple of days and im really starting to enjoy the later game. The part that im struggling with now is when its 5 or 6 handed and the blinds are getting decent. I find that I usually have to just stick it out and going into the bubble short stacked or I get a decent hand and double up.

Once its down to the bubble I like to get aggressive, whether my stack is big or small, I find I can usually pick up 60% of the blinds and build my stack nicely. If I am the big stack I can sometimes pick up 80-90% of the blinds depending on the players at the table obviously. I love smashing them around with my big stack.

Once HU comes, I find aggression to be the key but you have to know when to limit it. Ive been raising almost 100% of hands on the button and I think they get frustrated when they just cant get the cards to play.

So out of the 21 I have finished 8 times in the money but not once on the bubble. Out of those 8 times itm have been 1 second, 1 third and 6 first places.

I think I finally nailed down a BR policy for these. It works on an average buyin not a fixed limit. BR / 50 = average buyin . So when I play a session I mix some higher buyins some lower ones. But the average buyin will < 1/50th of my BR.

I tend to think turbos might have their advantages and disadvantages all depending on what kind of players and limits your playing. I saw a few people doing 10-20 double or nothing sngs at a time and thought it might be profitable. After a quick search they were ranking in the top ten of last month's players. I'm not sure how you can win 6/10 consistently in those things, I'm just too streaky.

Well, I played two sngs earlier today, cashed in one. The massive chip leader took out two to put us itm and raised me pre. I pushed and his j10>AQ. I can't remember the last time it happened but in the second sng I crapped out in last place. The third just ended, taking second I seem to not have the patience to grind out a win against a chip stacks three to four times mine. You'd think it be easy against the type of player who usually takes all the chips at that point.

I'm obviously taking it pretty slowly as far as how many played each day/week. I'm not at the top of my sng game and will just be happy to end in the green at the end of the month.

Very nice, I didn't understand why you were playing turbos. Thought you hated those. I guess you are talking 9 player sngos, are you playing those to practice for final tables? I would have thought 45-360 player sngos would be more up your alley, possible good return without being super long.

Well my coach started training me on 9 person turbos sng's. He said most people prefer them because they can get more games in. But we are switching to regular ones now.

His specialty is 9 person and 18 person so I am going to play those for a while. I probably will end up playing the 27, 45 and 90's though.
