noob seeks advice I've been playing online poker for over one year. Play chips which I know is not like real money play. I'm not dreaming of winning the wsop(would be nice!) I want to add to my income playing for real. NL holdem is what I mainly play. I know you make your money in the long run. I have a good Idea what challenges lay ahead and would appreciate your advice. How long have you been a winning player? best strategy for micro to medium stakes how much can a good player expect to win at different stakes? best bankroll strategy? How did you start out? thanks

Welcome guys. There are a ton of threads regarding bankroll management on this forum - use the search function and look for "bankroll" and/or "BRM". Starting BR is dependent on the stakes you want to play (or, the stakes you can play depend on the BR you have, either way). The minimum recommendation for cash game NLHE is generally 20 buyins, or 20 x 100 x the big blind. So, for $0.05/$0.10 NLHE (which is abbreviated as 10nl), you'd want a $200 bankroll. For strategy, please peruse the Golden Archives forum, there are a ton of good threads there discussing micro strategy. My personal favorite is ChuckTs' 10K post.

i started of with nothing, first money i made ware from freerolls, i remember playing for hours to make 9c, 13c, 1$ sometimes, nothing at times and so on, i moved to 10c tournaments on pokerstars, did my best to double up, sometimes i made it to the final table and win a couple of dollars, than, when i had 20$ i decided to give it a shot to 2nl, lucky for me i found cardschat when i was googling for a strategy and it helped me, anyway, the period from 0 to 20$ took me like 6 months or so, therefor, if you have 20$ or more to invest it would be a lot easier, i suggest starting at 2nl, if you can't beat 2nl you are not supposed to move up, so start at lvl1, be a winning player for at least 20k hands before you move on to 5nl. a poker HUD would be a big investment. good luck.

I think the best bankroll strategy if you do not want to deposit. Is join a lot of poker sites, where you can eventually join a private freeroll. There are fewer players and more payout. If you win money, I think it's always good to at least be able to cover at least 10 times the buy in of the tournament or cash game so you can take a hit. Good luck.

yeah variance is a bitch. went down $20 buck using same strategy. A lot of river suck outs. Most sessions I still come out ahead. Still up $15. |
