New player question Hi all new player here! Me and my friends were playing last night and the table was A J 6 3 2 all spades showing an Ace flush. I held a 10 of spades and someone else had K of spades. We were playing texas hold em. I was under the impression it was a split pot because we both had, in effect, Ace flush, regardless of what cards we were holding in the pocket. Is this right?

Nope. Highest 5 card flush wins. Your friend had As Ks Js 6s 3s, while you had As Js 10s 6s 3s. Since K is higher than 10, your friend wins the pot. In essence it is similar to a higher kicker. While you bot had the A high flush, his card plays higher than your card on that board. BTW, welcome to Cards Chat!

Yeah, the key thing to remember is that it is the best 5 cards that you can make and even if it takes the 5th best of those cards for a difference to be seen, then that card plays. For example if you had a 67 and your opponent had a K3 and the board read A A 2 A A, you would loose since while you both have four of a kind, his 5th card (the kicker), the King, is better than your high card of a 7.
