Mistake in play or bad luck? Not sure if I could have played this hand better, I think I could have but the outcome would have been the same the more I look back....? I know it's micro stakes but I want to improve me play never the less. 5NL, Rush poker (Yeah I'm a glutton for RP) First hand, I'm in the BB (4.95) and pick up AcJd. UTG +1 (3.85) which makes it .10 to go Folded to me, I just call. Pot Total .22. Flop is As Th 3c I check, UTG+1 checks Turn is a 8d I bet .15, UTG+1 calls. Pot .50. River is a 6s at this point I'm not sure what UTG+1 has... AQ? AK? KQo?... I check. UTG+1 checks. UTG+1 had AKo. I lose. Not sure if I made the right moves to minimize my loss or just an odd rush poker hand (like most of them), or a complete misplay by myself. I kind of just shook my head after the whole hand. Thoughts?

In my opinion it's just one of those things that happens in poker. He had TpTk and he wasn't going to fold it for anything, seeing as there weren't any draws on the board. Tbh it wasn't well played from the UTG as he didn't extract any value from his TpTk. Think about other moves you could have done. Raise? He would have called. Check? He obviously checks back. Fold? Well its a bad move too, you probably have the best hand. So looks like you played it well imo.

Your call is questionable preflop, AJ is a losing hand, in most cases from an under gun raise, and it looks like a healthy raise. When you get in these situations (AJ vs maybe Abig), you don't know where you are in a hand, best to just let it go preflop. Your opp idea to ck flop isnt terrible(no draws) keeping the pot small. two varriations are usual with toptop, bet the flop and if called slow down-your opp just said he can beat toptop cause theres no draws, and two ck behind on flop and reevaluate on turn if opp ck you bet and if he bets you call, this keeps pot control with soso hands.

re: Mistake in play or bad luck? poker You got away cheaply, lucky this was a passive player possibly a calling station, he had position and should have raised the flop with TPTK with your AA jack kicker playing rush I can see all the chips going in. He didn't even value bet the river.

think you played the hand fine. you could fold to the ep raise but calling a minraise is fine. betting the turn is fine too but i think betting the river instead would be alot better. when you bet the turn then i think you got to check/call most bets on the river. better to try to get value on the river and bet/fold to a raise. but as played think you did fine. i dont know how rush 5nl plays but maybe you could try getting 2 streets of value from your AJ there. you figure there got to be more PP's in his range than AX hands as you hold a blocker to alot of those. thing is i think check/calling is better as you get hands like KK or QQ to start betting for value that might not put so much in the pot if you bet first.

I think you could have played this any way and not have been totally wrong. A raise would have been risky when UTG is raising, he probably has something but if he is an aggressive player, pushing back would not be bad to protect your blinds against one raiser, but calling is also not a crime here IMO. A relatively cheap flop with a decent hand. Folding is also not horrendous, as you hand is only decent, but it would all have also to do with any read you have. I dont play rush, so dont know if reads are even possible. (You change tables all the time?) He played this terribly, so that was a bit of luck.

Changing tables after every hand. It does make reads a bit tougher but it's amazing how many times you see the same people. I keep notes/go back through past hands if I notice something of a betting pattern that helps me out later. I know I got away lucky (with little invested) because of the way the UTG played.
