Micro stakes Fixed Limits. Possible to win? Hi all, I'm new here, and am still relatively new to online poker, but not completely. When I play online, I typically play no greater than the .25/50 FL Hold 'em tables. My question is: Is it possible to win at these tables (especially the very small stakes tables like the .02/.04 FL tables) I have placed well enough in freerolls a couple of times and have actually gotten a bankroll going (and then I go on tilt and typically do something stupid to lose it) Anyway, starting at the smaller $0.02 tables it seems that it is all luck. They are just such small stakes and small bets (max .04 since it's FL) that people will call no matter what and actually end up catching quite a bit. Should I switch to NL? Is there less of this there? I also do fairly well in SnG but I prefer the cash tables to build a bankroll. Thanks for the help.

When I first got back into online poker about a year ago I played micro limit holdem before switching to NLH about 3 months ago. You can definitely win but you will have a lot of swings. In limit holdem you are pushing smaller edges with more ups and downs. Play solid poker, value bet, and don't bluff in the micros. Also, if you are going to play limit read Ed Miller's book on beating small stakes limit. It will pay for itself. GL Bill

Hey Bill, Thanks for your response. I figured this was probably the case, and I do play very tightly at the small stakes, but it doesn't really make a difference when it only costs 4 cent to see the river. You said you switched to NL, has that been better for you?

re: Micro stakes Fixed Limits. Possible to win? poker You can win at any level of poker if you play correctly all the time, and have the cards hit for you. At your small stakes, as you say, the river is cheaply gotten too. But you can win if you play sound poker and get lucky with the cards. Many times, those players who go to the end, are ending their time for the day and risk all they have left. Most players end their sessions on the hour or half hour, so the times in between is good for skill poker. Be patient and gamble only when you are sure you have the odds to see the river. Many small wins equals a big pay day....Sendittoken

I think the main thing to realize is that, if you are playing correctly you will beat the fish in the long run but the "long run" is REALLY long. You can't get down over a string of bad beats in one or two sessions. Also, you have to constantly check your game to make sure that you are playing correctly. For example, I went through a period where I was constantly getting sucked out on by people playing random hands. I eventually realized that I was limping way too much. By not raising often enough preflop I was letting the fish see the flop cheaply instead of forcing out at least some of the junk hands with raises. Bill |
