learning five card draw
i knew the rules but never played once until today. i thought learning is better at a real money table and i lost about 20 dolars : ) i searched forums but couldnt find any strategy about it. i want to know how to play it properly.
for example, you have , what would you do ? discard ace spade and go for flush ? or guarantee at least aces?or you have ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() , what would you do? also do you call this hand when blinds are high and you have avarage chips ?and do you know, at what percentage 2 pair, 3pair... wins statistically? thanks |

As with most poker games, position is important. If u were last to act with the aces and 4 hearts and other players had discarded 1 or 2 cards rather than 3 u might want to go for the flush. With the 6 7 8 9 2 go for the flush as there are more outs for u to hit although if there was a raise and a reraise pre draw i wouldn fold.
Doyle Brunsons Super System has a section on Draw which is worth reading. Basically the later u are to act the lesser hand you need to enter the pot with(normally raising) |

Hi, I play 5 card draw and its one of my favorite games.
Looking at your first hand up there the odds of hitting the heart are about 19.6%. If you are in a big pot or its quite expensive to play, play the hand but keep the two Aces and discard the middle 3 because if you miss the flush which you more than likely will you would end up having virtually nothing decent or nothing at all which is never good. Looking at the second hand its quite interesting. The highest you could possibly hit from the hand is really a 9 which is no good in a big pot. The odds of getting the Open ended Straight Draw by throwing the 2 is about 17.4%. And as i said earlier the odds of getting the flush are 19.6%. If playing this hand i would strongly advise to get rid of the 8 because you have got more chance of hitting the flush. Remember to not get excited because you see a huge hand possibility. The odds become more against you when you go for bigger hands. Just take into account the odds of hitting. Generally if you have a pair given to you keep it and go for 2 pair or even 3 of a kind! Try not to let yourself get dealt nothing if you can help it. Hope that helped. ![]() RK Last edited by Razor_King : 20-08-2008 at 12:52 AM. Reason: Bolding out important bits |
