Hi, just wondering in general how you guys go about playing hands such as JJ's and QQ's early in a tournament. Scenario: Ultimatebet and blinds are 5 - 10 with a starting stack of 1500. (near first hand.) Please say what you would do in the scenario above. It would help! ![]() RK P.S. Just a general question but bet amounts are appreciated!! |

Need more information, table position, raises to you, type & buy in of tourney, & such, but generally going to raise/re raise with Q's, & less so with J's. This early probably 3x raise with Q's. Poc J's are a more problematic hand & response is more dependent on what has happened in the hand so far. Sorry for the vagueness of the reply but general questions tend to produce vague answers.

very generally speaking as this is a very general question.
I always raise if I am going to raise the same amount 4xbb+1bb per limper if any. I doesn't matter if I am stealing with 89s or have AA's I don't vary my raise amounts based on my holding. I will make adjustments for the table and blinds though. Post flop, JJ no scare cards bet the pot and go from there with your reads I tend to raise raises with JJ to figure out if I am beat or what. Post flop, QQ no scare cards bet 1/2-3/4 pot and go from there with your reads. I will smooth call a raise on non scary boards. |

the flop will determine how those cards are played, i'd watch for higher cards ie K/A if the board looks clear bet/raise. but its hard to say every hand is different. it will also depend on who you are playing with.

I'm starting to dislike JJ. I just played in a freeroll, first had I caught JJ, and 1 fellow pushed all in. Now, figuring we were at a start of a freeroll, and knowing how many donks are there, I call. Cards flip, I breath a sigh of relief as he has a Q4 off, but of course, he catches a Queen on the Flop. JJ and QQ are excellent cards, unless you've got some crummy luck, like me.

It really depends but usually, for me anyway, when I get dealt a pair, especially if they are high cards, such as QQ and JJ, although those two in themselves are different from each other, but generally raise with confidence, because those are generally strong hands which will win you pots, and especially raise confindently if it is a small amount of people in the tournament, in which case hands become more valuable, and high pairs like QQ and JJ count even more. I hope this helps you somewhat.

When the blinds are that low I usually raise to 120. Never slow play because often enough youll get screwed on the community cards. Then according to what is on the board I bet differently. Every player play this hand differently. Try it your way.

I would need more information to give you a solid answere... I will say this though. Today i was playing and I was dealt JJ first hand. Both 2 players before me went all in do I folded the J's. I would have lost to Ace rag.(shocker) If I had the button or blinds and had no raises before my turn to act, I would have pushed with them tho...

I would raise with both these hands in an unraised pot from any position, with JJ i would want to gain information, cut down the number of opponents but not build a very large pot until after the flop. With QQ i want to get my chips in, there is only 3 hands i don't want to be up against AA, KK, AK, and even against AK i am 50-50.

It depends who had J J or Q Q and who was first to bet. If i had J J first to act i would do a 3x bb and maybe call a reraise, BUT NOT CALL AN ALL IN. If its early in the game and you dont know your opponents i would just call with J J and hope for the best. If i had Q Q on the other hand and first to act, I would ACT and make it 4xbb and go all in on flop unless a K or A showed up but you get my point.
Talking about QQ AND JJ that is my worst bad beat and also i got it couple hours deep with 35k or something and this aggresive guy gets a seat on my table im talking about rasing everyhand and betting like crazy. I was BB and he first to act made a 5k raise and got one caller, I reraise it to 15k he calls and other guy folds. FLOP comes J J 3 i figured i had the best hand and went all in for another 20k and he call me and flips J J lol worst day of my life. Lost about 60th place with that beat and 1st place was like 3k so i was heated if i won that pot who know what would of happened ![]() |

JJ only two way s to play um lol,,, all in or fold um!!! [/quote]I dont agree with you. You never have to go all in with jacks unless you know what type of player you going against. Besides that going all in with jacks will end in disaster 75% of the times if you don't play it correctly. |

I would usually raise pot size with both JJ and QQ preflop, and try not to get involved all-in with either starting hand preflop if possible. So many hands can crack both. After flop if it still looks good, I'll be usually 2/3 pot bet to get calls accordingly.

When i'm getting jacks or queens and I'm first to act, I raise to like 50 because people with like a-j or 10-9 suited who like to see a nice flop will call me. If someone raise befor me , I will reraise him like 3 times. Only at the late stage of a tournament I like to just call with a hand like that to trap the opponent.

I think early in the game you have far less time invested and it makes your chips worth less than they will be later. According to what I have read JJ vs AKo gives the pair a slight advantage. After all he has to improve to win and you do have a couple of outs. So if its early I'll call an all-in. Coin flips aren't much fun but if you have the advantage you'll win more than you lose. However, we don't remember the wins as log as the losses.

I would generally raise 3-4 times the big blind. However in FR's you have to watch for people just calling cause they have nothing better to do! lol
Dont let someone with 9-2 call in a freeroll and suck out! |

Pre-flop raise 3 or 4x BB. When someone re-raises you call or fold. When on the flop there is A or K bet half a pot when you are the first to act, when someone before you raises then fold...

Definitely open them for a raise and play accordingly. If the board comes K or A hi and you are in a multi-way pot, I would play onward cautiously and basically give up on the hand unless you improve. If there is a late position raise then I would re-raise, if early position, I would call.
