Instructional Videos at coaching sites

Ok, sorry in advance if this is a naive question.

I am starting to play a lot more, and due to some investments will be BR for higher stakes in a couple of months, if I think I am ready. I want to be ready ASAP, so I have been looking into ways to learn more, and obviously a coaching site could be helpful.

My question:

Some sites have "down-loadable videos" and some dont. Are the down-loadable ones also keepable? So I can use em after I am no longer a member? Is there a limit on how many you can dl in a certain time frame?

Any tips or info pertinent to coaching sites for one who has never been to one are welcome. I am SnG and MTT btw. Not looking for site suggestions in this post (tho they are welcome) but more, what to look for when choosing a site, and what I need to know about pros/cons.

Oh yea. And why do some allow downloads and others not? One could just pay one month and DL all the vids and skip town.

Some sites have DRM on their downloadable videos as well. Which means you can't play them w/o having a membership there. I think the only ones who don't do that are dragthebar and DC.

Various video training sites charge $25 to $30 per month. That doesn't seem like much of a barrier for most people in that it doesn't take significant improvement to raise one's winnings by that much per month.

You can download as many as you want (if they're not DRM). I have over 400 vids. from one site alone ( no limit to the # of vids. I chose to download).

I like the sites that allow you to downlaod the video's. You can review these at ay time and you can then review saved video's prior to playing a session.

Have any of the folks on this site used an online training site and found that it's really improved your game? I'll admit that I read lots of books (I'll post about those later) but I wonder if the value of signing up for a training site is worth it. It seems very tempting.

I know that some sites are more suited to small-stakes players (and I'm definitely in that league for the foreseeable future) and others are more suited to high-stakes. I've heard a lot about GrinderSchool and that seems the best for the low stakes I play. But is it worth it?

It's like everything else, you get out of it what you put into it. If you just show up and watch a video a week, you'll probably not find it worth it. If you really dive into the videos and tap into the resources of the coaches answering your questions in the video discussion threads, it's a sick deal.

Ill give my opinion.
The videos are great if your ready to use them. The problem is, watching someone play 200nl may offer some insight to a 10nl player, but not alot. Unless your ready for that info.

Cardrunners has some mediocre videos for micro players and people who are trying to fix major leaks so they can move out of the micros. But none that I could find that blew me away.


Im looking into getting some actual coaching. Ive found a thread with someone who's been giving lots of good advice for pretty good prices.

Have you watched many (any) training vids.? I'm not even sure how many I've watched... probably 500+ and for sure most were well-worth watching. Did they improve my game? I'm an MTT player & yes... they've helped out quite a bit.

Good points and please let me elaborate. I've watched a couple of dozen at this point. I don't debate that studying the game (books/video/experience/forums) is crucial to improve your game. I guess my question was more whether a subscription to a site versus spending time on sites like this is worth it for someone like me. I play microstakes and probably only have about 10-15 hours a week in total to play. That's one reason I'm thinking that small MTT and SnGs are my best route (the family gets annoyed if I disappear into 4-5 hour tourneys on a regular basis!).
